I went on Friday night (9th Oct) and it was fantastic. I often slag Wigan Council off but they did a brilliant job turning a sports hall into a 1000 plus concvert venue.
David Gest introduced
Russell Thompkins Jr The New Stylistics (Group/Band)
Peabo Bryson Deniece Williams Freda Payne Dorothy Moore, The Tempations, Percy Sledge, Jimmy Ruffin Billy Paul and Jean Knight.Unbelievable actually seeing artists who’s music was popular 30-40 years ago.
Awesome indeed.
12 October 2009 at 12:19 am #10479Just think. If a bomb had gone off that night the British pantomime industry would have been decimated in one fell swoop ! :D

16 October 2009 at 1:12 am #10643What the f*ck are you on about?Your not a stupid man Hugh. However I will elucidate for you. The artistes you mentioned are plying their trade these days in pantomimes ( hence my gag ! ) or Butlins holiday camps ! In other words they have slipped somewhat down the ratings to shall we say E List status ! As the guy off The League Of Gentlemen said ” Its a sh*t business ” !

16 October 2009 at 1:19 am #10645What is wrong with Butlins Holiday Camps may i ask ,your sounding a bit snobby filmossThe entertainment leaves a lot to be desired ! Oh and the weather is invariably sh*t. The ale is exorbitantly priced and sh*t and the staff are social misfits ! Is that enough ?

Strongly disagree about the entertainment bit ,I went to the Minehead resort this year and the entertainment was spot on ,splashwaterworld was outstanding ,Kids had a great time agree about the ale bit supped the local cider that was ok and weather was good must of picked a good week :D
16 October 2009 at 8:44 pm #10661Wrong, the quality of the artists was very high and the mood of the admittedly ‘mature’ audience lifted them even further. Gest was very funny with his introductions and as a raconteur and it was easily the 2nd best concert (Original Live Aid was the first)I’ve been to in my life.
I would urge anybody who likes Soul to go to this event which is now on a UK tour.

17 October 2009 at 1:18 am #10676Each to their own I guess. Soul aint my bag and the middle of the road line up of ” Live Aid ” did nothing for me either but like I said each to their own. Genuinely glad you had a good night.
