How many times have we heard that this season, nearly everytime we lose and have a go in the last 10 mins, face it bobby you are shiiiiiiiite scared of going over the half way line due to the wollopings we have had since you have been in charge, we have a back 5 that costs naff all and no coach to show them how to defend, what do you expect. Desire and effort is now just not enough on its own, you need to risk going forward, last season the best desire and effort came to us against Arsenal winning 3-2 but dont forget that for 80 mins we were crap, either GO and give the club a chance or take a risk cos either way with you playing the way we are GOING DOWN.
26 January 2011 at 4:12 pm #56972Thats one thing that beggars belief – no defence coach
We have a defence that leaks and still leaks goals by making silly mistakes, some /most of our defenders cant defend simple as that – and why oh why no one on the posts at corners
Ans = our manager says we dont need one
why have a goalkeeping coach then?

We’ve had Dennis Lawrence employed since the start of the season to work with the defence as a coach.
26 January 2011 at 4:19 pm #56976We should have Matt Jackson as our defence coach. A clever and articulate guy who obviously still loves the club judging by his commentary on 5Live Extra last night.

WHO
No I do remember him playing for Wrexham. Another member of our backroom staff who is way out of his depth. No wonder we are doing so well is it

Arsene Wenger? WHO?
He never even made it as a footballer. What good is he going to be in a coaching job? Jose Mourinho?
Sven Goran Eriksson? Roy Hodgson? Gerard Houllier? Paul Jewell? Ian Holloway? How do you know he’s out of his depth? Is it because he never player football at a high level?

Sorry Standish but that’s how it is the defence is poor and if I was defensive coach I would be having a few sleepless night’s.
27 January 2011 at 10:17 am #57097and why oh why no one on the posts at corners
Correct me if I’m wrong, but against Villa was only the 2nd goal conceded from a corner this season (Newcastle away being the other), so we’re doing something right.
27 January 2011 at 11:40 am #57100There was also someone on the post that Agbonwhatsit scored at too
27 January 2011 at 12:14 pm #57104Just watched the goal again: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/premier-league/video/allvideos-22327918/highlights-wigan-athletic-1-2-aston-villa-23964189 go to 1min 25 secs
There’s no one on the post when the ball is played in. McArthur ends up there when the goal is scored.
So before you go criticising people on other threads for having no evidence to back up their statements, make sure you practice what you preach. ;)

Never mind the blushing faces. The fact of the matter is you have nothing valid to back up your scorn at Dennis Lawrence being appointed as a coach. Are the blushing faces masking the fact that you are trying to backtrack?Yes Hindley, the there is no denying that the defence is poor, however, you were laughing at the fact that Lawrence reached the dizzy heights of Wrexham and Swansea in his playing career. As I was pointing out, it’s clearly possible to be a successful coach even if you’ve never played a decent level of football.
Had the defensive coach been Jaap Stam, would you still have said he was out of his depth?
Or are you saying that perhaps Lawrence may turn out to be a good coach, but our defence is a lost cause?
