He will be used to replace tired legs towards the end of games because he does chase and hassle players but that is all he does really ! Connor Salmon was keen but couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo and Di Santo is not much different in my view ! If it is goals that we need then I would rely on the youngster from Utd over Di Santo !

The difference between Di Santo and Sammon? Di Santo is a Premier League player!

I thought that he struck up a good understanding with Kone. As I said, I think he is competing for a place with Gomez, not Kone. And I think we will be glad to see his skills again before the season ends.

At Fulham; Kieran Richardson produced an excellent piece of defending when he slid in to deny Di Santo in the penalty area after a storming run forward from James McCarthy, before Maloney shot at the Fulham goalkeeper.

Di Santo, with an exquisite piece of skill, then flicked the ball up and volleyed on the turn but his shot went narrowly wide.

However, Wigan grabbed the goal their play deserved when a quickly taken free-kick allowed Di Santo to cut in from the left-wing, run unchallenged to the edge of the penalty area and blast the ball past Schwarzer for his first Premier League goal since 6 October.

Di Santo had a chance to claim all three points when he again ran at the Fulham defence, created some space and fired a low shot from 12 yards which Schwarzer did well to push wide.

At Reading; Figueroa had not scored a top-flight goal for almost two years but the Honduras left-back was celebrating after firing through Federici’s legs following a clever one-two with Di Santo.
He should play in midfield then if he is that good because his strike rate is piss poor ! Dont be fooled by all that running around ! ;)

By the way, which Prem club would pay decent money for him and pay him a decent wage ? ;)
I reckon Brendan Rodgers rumoured interest has some truth in it.

He has come on leaps and bounds in his time here and while it wont be the end of the world I will be sad to see him go.

If I had to put money down I would say Di Santo and Figgeroller are on their way to West Ham.

Have to wonder what Di Santo would actually do at Liverpool though…?

He’s got nothing on Sturridge or Suarez – plus they’ve got other strikers who are probably on par, if not better than him.

If he did play, the Scousers wouldn’t be quite as understanding as us Wigan fans.
We see the work he does off the ball and applaud him for it.
The Scousers would just jump on his back as soon as they realise he isn’t going to score them goals on a regular basis (..which he won’t) and he’d soon disappear.

Moving to West Ham would just be a pointless, sideways move for either Figs or Di Santo – but I guess money talks in football.

I agree with all of that.

When Allardyce was talking about Figger he said this – “When you look at what he’s done at Wigan – and like everyone else he’s refused to sign a contract – there will be a lot of clubs interested in him.”

It makes me sick to the stomach to think him and Porno Gold will be rubbing their hands together at the thought of picking up Di Santo, Figz, Alcaraz and Mcmanaman on a free.

But to be honest if I was them that is exactly what I would do.

I sit near the home bench. Di santo got a rollicking from Roberto because he didn’t want to come on at the end. Never seen Roberto give out a rollicking to a player like that before.

He’s got the skills and he’s got the energy. He could play in a position between the midfield and Kone. It’s a role that has been filled by Gomez, Maloney and Di Santo himself.

However, he doesn’t pick the team.

Reliable goal scorers are rare creatures and usually out of Wigan’s reach. I’d rather see Di Santo contributing to Wigan than another club.

You are being niave if you think any of the out of contract players will resign at the end of the year – with the possible exception of Boyce, who has been an excellent servant but is getting to the end of his career in the prem (age).
Bobby has spent the last few years sorting out the wage bill so we become sustainable. There will be new clubs and other bottom dwellers willing to pay more than we will and a signing on fee and they will go there, why wouldn’t they? Some like Figgy and Alcaraz are no longer spring chickens and they effectively have one good contract left. They owe it to themselves and their families to make as much as possible before they end their careers.
lopez wont be a big loss, neither will Figgy. Di Santo will end up as the reserve striker (like Hugo) at a club like Fulhum or as the main striker at a newly promoted club desperate for PL experience – he won’t be too big a loss.
The one I would like Bobby to make an exception for is Alcaraz, break the bank and get him to sign a new contract (and give him the captaincy – toss up with Ramis).
Bobby has not rested on his laurals, Globart looks pretty good but we need another defender to come in. He has midfield replacements for jimmy Mac (C) who will be off but we need someone who can fill the right WB role and I’m not sure how close we are to having that. Left WB cover is also questionable but young Redmond (or is it Mustoe) looked like he is in the grand plan – then there are the spanish lads (Campabadel is LWB I think). Will these lads will be ready for next seaon is of course a big question.

So we could be saying goodbye to Figueroa, Di Santo and Alcaraz. And you think McCarthy will be off too. If we do sign a new RWB, Boyce could drop back into defence perhaps.

I’d be worried about so many new players coming in at once. You can be sure that one of them will be a disappointment.

We’ll have to be active in the market then – I don’t think many reserves are ready to step up. And this assumes that Martinez will be here to maintain continuity.

By the way, when a club signs a player on a free transfer, they don’t get him cheap. The benefit goes to the player. Money saved on the transfer fee goes towards the player’s sharply increased wages. If Wigan could or would match the wages, the player might well stay.

I,m just meaning his demeanor in general, he doesn,t seem part of a tight knit squad, does he know hes on his way regardless, as he hasn,t signed a contract yet, I see he turns 24, next week, so in effect are we not entitled to a transfer fee, at least with Victor Moses, we banked 10 mill or so, to enable us to sign other options, I think we should have offloaded him in Jan, for whatever, otherwise we have been very naive, after getting stung by Rodellega, and Diame last season, But to me hes disinterested, when at this stage of the season, we need all players, singing off the same hymn book, or has his nose been put out of joint by Arouna Kone, scoring more goals, in half a season, than hes scored, in almost 3,Latics fans in general, jump on Gomez back, but the truth of the matter is hes got 8 goals, this season in all comps, from midfield, were Di Santo has got 4 from up front, I can imagine the furore if Jordi, was to run straight down the tunnel.

19 March 2013; Franco Di Santo insists he is happy to remain with relegation-threatened Wigan, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The former Chelsea man is happy with Wigan’s progress this season and wants to be a key part of Roberto Martinez’s plans at the DW Stadium.

I am sure all of them will be happy to stay.

Providing we give them a pay rise ;)

I’m with the angry ape above Alcaraz should be priority as was Maloney earlier in the season.

At the risk of being labeled a racist, I think most Argentinians are like that.

All Di Santo says in that article is that he wants to remain in the Premier League. He says nothing about staying at Wigan. That’s all the interpretation of the author.

No clubs in the top 15 would be interested in him if you ask me ! He may put in a shift sometimes and yes chip in with the odd goal or assist but on the whole he is pretty average ! Let him go if you ask me because his petulant tunnel exits are getting banal now !

Where are you supposed to go at the end of the game?

At half time, Di Santo looked as though he was getting ready to come on. Wigan certainly needed to make a change.

Against Newcastle, McArthur and Di Santo came on to save the game. Against Norwich, McArthur changed the game on his own.

Di Santo warmed up during the second half, but only came on for Kone a minute before the end. Why did Kone come off – was it just a time wasting device?

If Di Santo was upset, perhaps it was because he wanted to come on sooner. Sounds a reasonable excuse to me.
