Apologies if this has been discussed before, but do others on here think we could have given this guy a chance to at least prove himself.
3 Latics managers had the chance to let him prove himself in the top flight & Championship & all 3 declined the opportunity to do so.
When on loan at Wolves at Latics current level he didn’t do much & was used as a late impact sub by Blackpool & the Blackpool fans I know (all 2 of em!!) said he wasn’t ready for regular starts.
That tells me all I need to know as to whether he should have been given a chance to prove himself.
He’s only scored with any regularity in the 3rd tier of English football & Latics aren’t at that level. He may well go on to be a great player but whilst he was with us I don’t think he was ready to play at the level the team were at. He wanted first team football, Latics wouldn’t give it to him & so he’d said he wouldn’t renew his contract this summer. As a result Latics decided to cash in on him & I assume that there’ll be some sell on clause in there if he does go on to be successful
I guess next season will give more of an indication as to whether he has a future at higher levels of the gameAlthough Wolves are a division lower this season, they are a greatly changed team.
Jackett has abandoned most of the former stars and assembled a brand new team. Dicko has made a large contribution to its success.
We’ll see how they get on next season – though I hope we won’t be visiting Molineux ourselves.
Personally I like to see a player play before making judgment, just didn’t get the chance to judge with Dicko. He has scored goals with nearly all the teams he has played for! With our dire shortage of strikers I would have taken a punt on keeping him till the end of the season..
