Dave Whelan the asset stripper. Are people now smelling the coffee?!

A good mate of mine said thats why steve bruce left .he smelt a rat and then told mr whelan im no prisioner .be seein .ya i didnt believe him .but it make.s you wonder . at the moment he.wants to sort his club out or our club out its a laughing stock and a shambles and not just on the pitch we are the supporters we should know what going on .not left in the dark
Why should you know what is going on? Do you have shares in the club?

If you owned a pie shop, would you expect to answer financial questions posed by a bloke who comes in to buy a meat and potato and a cream slice every Saturday?

It’s a business sir, not a public service.
Get real what ever happened to the customer being right so would you say the club is going in the right direction.and dont give us the big time we wouldnt have a team only for whelan the club was here well before whelan and so was some of our fans or is it tinted glasses kaper again

Wigmon,

(repeat link posting number 37)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009 … eague-debt

Many will say it is all lies as it’s not from the Observer, but I’ll post the highlights here:

Accounts for the year to 31 May 2008
Turnover £43m (up from 27m the previous year, an increase of 59.2%)
Wage bill £38.4m (up from £27.5m the previous year, an increase of 39.6%)
Wages as proportion of turnover 89%
Loss before tax £11.2m
Debts £66.4m
Interest payable £1.7m

TV money per season is £30-£35 million for a club like Wigan. Some people on this forum have stated it is £60 million, because Burnley have said they would get £60 million for being promoted. The people who have posted in the past are the same people whose idea of a financial dilemma is if they need to try and save a quid to get a can of Fanta with their kebab.

Yes they will get £30-£35 million from TV / Prize money, and a guaranteed £30-£35 million price money for the following season if they stay up, or, £25 million parachute payment if they are relegated. There you go – at least £60 million guaranteed whatever the eventuality.

In summary: there is no money, and we have merely the pot we p*ss in.

Get real? This is real.

The club is going in the right direction to survive, and not drop like a debt burdened stone. If you are talking about staying in the Premier League, then if I’m honest, I don’t know. We’ll see in May. I’m not a coach, and I’ve never played professional football. If it is, it is. If not, I’ll still be in my seat next season.

In answer, yes, the customer has the right to question the quality of the goods purchased. If it was a shop, you can question what you have bought, and if you are not happy, get a refund and don’t return there again. You do not have the right to question the owner on the financial operations of his business.

So there’s the reality bit. Football clubs are businesses, and you are a customer, not an interested partner.

Maybe the Wigan public also need to invest in Wigan Athletic.

Sammy’s comment is the most valid on this thread.

The Wigan public do need to invest in a massive way, and that is the crux of the problem.

I’m not in any way, saying you are wrong. But if that’s the case, then perhaps it’s time to find something new to be interested in. Christ, whatever happened to the ‘beautiful game’?
All those years of watching us slogging it out in the lower leagues, then a majestic rise, only to be confounded by the horror that is the reality of the ‘Premier League’, which in fact, is nothing but a qualifying tournament for the money spinning turd that is the Champions League. Ha! Champions League. That’s why the top 4 sides qualify.

Or is it just all about more money?

Our game is imploding before our eyes, and where it will stop, I don’t know. Probably the powers that be coming out and saying that a European Super League is the only financial option. Hey come on, how long will it be before it happens?

Getting ever nearer to walking away. I missed Boxing Day through lack of desire/interest, call it what you will. Prior to that, I’d only missed 7 homes since 1986.

Whilst i’m in the ‘DW needs to spend money’ brigade, let’s be honest = he SAVED the club from the depths (leeds utd had 4 chances to pay their debts off, we had one) he promised PL football.

Now 15 years later we are in our 5th PL year in a top stadium (shit atmosphere like, but hey ho).

My Grandad (who i never knew) dreamt of watching us in the top division, as i’m sure some of your Fathers and Grandfathers did. Let’s enjoy the fact that a small ‘family club’ like ours are living the dream as opposed to being where Stockport (who we played a number of times on our way up) are.

Dave,

That’s the reality of it these days, unless you are watching Chorley and the such like.

You leave, and somone else takes your season ticket.

I love football, and if there wasn’t a Wigan Athletic, I’d go and watch Charnock Richard etc every week.

But as it is, I’m from Wigan, and there is a Wigan team playing in national leagues each week, so that’s who I’ll go and watch.

Yes, did you not know we have the only voluntary playing squad in the football league?

It also flashes up on the screen when your bank balance is in the red. Oh hang on a minute, is that reality or Championship Manager? I get confused.
