Quote from last night:
“We were still trying to score a goal, when keeping possession and working the opposition would have been better”
Gary Caldwell

Wow – Rocket Science
12 August 2015 at 3:06 pm #143945I think he is saying that we were trying to force the game when we didn’t have too if you read the full article.
“We managed to get in front, but we didn’t manage the game well in that period.
“We were still trying to score a goal, when keeping possession and working the opposition would have been better.
“We had comfortable possession in full-back areas, but we kept trying to force it through the middle and allowed them back into a game that I don’t think they should have been allowed back into.”
12 August 2015 at 3:09 pm #143946Yes but I also think it shows cautiousness – if we go 1-0 up, why not up the tempo, go for 2-0 up rather than sit back and try to keep hold, we have done this for years and look where it has got us – always seem to be too cautious in my opinion, rather than going for it.

There was an instance in the second half when the ball dropped from a scramble for Perkins and instead of hitting it from about 8 yards out he passed it back to James who was outside the box and we ended up losing the ball and giving away a free kick.
The problem with the possession game is I always think we’re too concerned on keeping the ball and don’t take those half chances to shoot because we’re afraid of losing the ball. We need to eradicate that and use the best of both styles of play.

How many times did players get into a shooting position and pass sideways or back ?. I t was similar at Coventry but their players did pull the trigger only for it to go wizzin past.
Abit er shooting practise wouldn’t go amiss and a bit less crab football
12 August 2015 at 3:45 pm #143951The difficulty is, if the manager wants the players to play like this, then they will do .. or be dropped. For me, Im quite prepared to give him more time to make adjustments, maybe another signing or two, and let the players gel more, but I do think in this division that perhaps possession based football isn’t the best tactic, and we need to play more positively – game plan seems to be focussed on not letting the opposition get the ball and score .. nothing wrong with that, we just need to add the part where we actually have to score as well, and when we do .. go for more
