Not to worry London and Birmingham having a few problems with rioting but Big bad Dave Cameron will be back in town to sort it out
9 August 2011 at 1:55 pm #69745Genuine comment on Guardian this morning:
“My colleague Helen Clifton in Manchester has been speaking to Greater Manchester police, who are stressing that the trouble in Salford last night — which saw four or five cars damaged — was not connected with the riots elsewhere in the country. They say it was the kind of thing they are used to, adding that they remain ready to offer back-up to the Met if it is required.”
In London it’s rioting – in Salford it’s business as usual.
Not a funny situation I know – but….

Joking apart if the current troubles spread to Manchester and Liverpool and are on the scale of the London riots I would say there would be a good chance the game would be called off Saturday

10 August 2011 at 1:42 pm #69812Strange times when I agree with Millwall fans:
(from Daily Mirror):
A crowd of up to 200 men turned up in ELTHAM, South East London, to “protect” it from potential rioters.
The group began gathering in the afternoon following violence and looting in neighbouring LEWISHAM and WOOLWICH.
The men were drinking in two pubs chanting “Millwall” and “England”.
A large number of police patrolled the area – as they did in other boroughs such as WANDSWORTH in South West London – and closed one of the pubs at 7.30pm.
The vigilante group then converged on an open area of land.
One man in his 20s said: “About 80% of the lads here are Millwall fans.
“We won’t stand for it. If anyone wants to come down here and start looting tonight, let them try – we’ll be ready for them. We’re here to protect the town.” The group got support on Twitter. One user, a local mum, wrote: “So proud our football fans are standing up to those little thugs in Eltham. Let’s see if the little boys go anywhere near.”
