A Burnley fan dialled in on 606 and was saying how terrific it was that they have risen from 92nd in the football league to the Premiership, and how the fight was far from over yet !
A similar parallel to the Wigan story; apart from the positivity of the fans !
I heard that too.
He actually said they were the only club to have been 92nd in the league to climb to the Premier League.
Now, I’m sure we have been 92nd, but we have also been 1st.
With all due respect, I think they will go straight back down this season. It’s ok talking like that when it’s all new, and the paint on the stands is still tacky.
But when you are like us, and have had 5 seasons in the top flight, the novelty definitely wears off. Season by season, we have gradually gone down hill. Quality players have come and gone, and the overall quality of players coming in has declined.If the point of your post is to provide a “Look how far we’ve come” example, then I would ask you to think about our club, and the fact that whilst it’s a great story to tell the grandkids, about how we climbed up the leagues to the top flight, it has been a constant struggle, and we have been lucky up to this season. Only goal difference and a change of manager, actually prevented us from being relegated. True, we’ve done well. But then again, the constant battle to survive and stay up has gradually caught up with us, and I can only actually see us staying up this season, due to other teams failings. It all get’s a bit mundane, really.
