This is not a post to be judgemental on who is the better supporter because they have been going the longest. At the end of the day everyone who comes on here are Latics nuts. That is apart from one or two that is.
Well I remember an old wooden stand on the pop side and going under it looking for treasure. Also rooting around in the ash on both the Shevvy and Town Ends. Getting filthy and bollocked off me dad. I can remember massed games of football on the same banks and at times lots of lads having a kick around on the Springy Pitch. There was also a brew cabin adjacent to the old Pop Side cover and behind it the wall where everyone had a piss. Also have recollections of a posh type of lady on the Pop side who always shouted “Up the Latics” and the ticket seller shouting “Ten Pound for a tanner for the first goal scored. The crowd one night shouting “Davenport, keep him, Davenport, keep him!
Who of the wrinklier type can remember the Roy of the Rovers moment of Harry Lyons hat trick and Alfie Craigs disallowed equaliser (still frigging freezing after that night. The great thing is when closer memories are posted then us owd goats have them too. Fantastic.5 June 2015 at 2:08 pm #142692My oldest memory is of my younger brother coming along with me and my dad to a NPL game. We stood on the few rows of terracing at the Shevvy end. My brother spent the whole game digging a hole with a stick and then proudly sitting in it. He cried when we went home as he wanted to stay sitting in it.
On-field, the first home league game against Grimsby and the 4-2 cup win against Chelsea stand out, as does the Mackem mud slide which is still the funniest event I’ve witnessed at a game! The last game I attended at SP was against Chester where a bloke called Keith Gillespie tore their defence a collective 2nd ar$ehole. I didn’t know at the time he was a loanee from Man Utd!

And that he later admitted that his time spent at Wigan was the worst in his career!

First, he wasn’t best liked on his brief second stint here!
5 June 2015 at 4:11 pm #142701Bury on a Tuesday night, pissed down all night, dropped my programme in a puddle and it turned to papier mache and welded its pages together. Was gutted. Still got it.
5 June 2015 at 5:16 pm #142702My earliest memory was winning div 3. Aka league 2. Apparently been alot before that but that’s the earliest I can vividly remember
5 June 2015 at 6:01 pm #142708My fist actual memory is Chester at home in 95. David Felgate got injured in the warm-up and Farnworth went in goal. 1 down early on, won 2-1.
I actually thought this was my first ever game but looking back at pictures and stats etc it was the year before that I started but I haven’t a clue who against. I know I went to Villa Park for the League Cup game but I’ve no actual memory of the game.
5 June 2015 at 10:20 pm #142715Surely everyones earliest memory is their first ever time watching the Latics. Mine was against Burscough in a cup game won 5-2 in the days when every home game ended with a pitch invasion
6 June 2015 at 12:32 am #142717First game don’t know Wat year Chester away Sealand road
6 June 2015 at 2:56 am #142722I seem to remember that one Nun Tic. Think how many fans of clubs in this country can have seen such a wide span of clubs. Man Utd and Liverpool. Guiness Exports and Burscough. Arnold and Pilkington RECs. Arsenal and Chelsea. The best thing about it they were all of the same importance to us. Skem in the Ashworth Trophy meant the same as Everton in the FA Cup. Fantastic.

We only got 750 tickets for that Villa game I seem to remember and we were at the side of the pitch not behind the goal, we got battered and had the craic with Mark Bosnich in nets. We were a dog shite team then, I’m surprised you remember any victories in those years. They were always good times though, strangely enough.

Fantastic.True Donny and when you think about it Wigan Athletic must have played more derbies against different clubs than any other.
6 June 2015 at 3:16 pm #142738Again that night at Villa Latics fans didn’t stop singing. Fantastic support 5 nil down and blasting out YAMS. Brilliant.
