bob on the moon – you are correct in that there was a Wigan Athletic before Whelan but would there have been a Wigan Athletic without Whelan?
He does like his own voice but a guy who runs the football club like a business and keeps us going with the big boys is ok by me.

How much money did Gaydamak give to Portsmouth ?For those who do not reside in the real world, the answer is bugger all, zilch, nil, zero, sweet FA. The only money all these clubs have received is by way of LOANS. This means that the clubs are in debt and will not only have to pay the money back, they will have to pay large amounts of interest as well.
This is one of the main reasons that Portsmouth are in such a predicament now – Gaydamak has left the club and wants all his money back !!! All the money spent in Harry’s wheeling and dealing was on borrowed money and now the chickens have come home to roost.
Do we want the same at Wigan ? I think not.
PS I think I also need to explain the term refinancing to some people as well – it means that further loans have been taken out (usually at extortionate rates of interest) to keep the club (eg Liverpool) afloat.
In Summary: Ignore the ungrateful village idiots Mr Whelan and carry on letting us live a dream that we can afford.

We should really leave them alone to vent their spleen at the way Whelan is not doing his job and bankrupting the club. It’s an escape, and a preventative against hitting the kids, kicking the dog and battering the wife.

get over it and get a life.Can we get back to my original point please…Mr soundbite says in an interview with Sky Sports that he aspires to play in European football and he will, to quote ” Put his money where is mouth is ” if we do qualify ! Well I will stick my neck out here and say that there is no way on Earth will we get into Europe with the quality of our squad and therefore that makes his promise of spending a somewhat empty one does it not ? Or can you still not see what I am saying ! If he wants his aspirations to come to fruition then he is gonna have to reach for his wallet or it will not happen ! Either that or keep his mouth shut !

When he says he will open his wallet and back European football, he means he will open it on behalf of Wigan Athletic. Now we all know that he owns Wigan Athletic so it will be his money that he spends.
BUT: Like every other owner, the money will not be a gift but will be a LOAN which will be on the club’s books. When Mr Whelan subsequently sells the club, he will want his money back just like Mr Gaydamak did.
The reason he says he will open his/our wallet if we get into Europe is because he knows that there will be a cash return and there will be no chance of it disappearing down a black hole.
