Are the national side overated, not very good or just unlucky. What does anybody think of the performances so far.
Indeed they have dominated and on paper have played pretty positive line ups but haven’t delivered much.
What is it then that just isn’t clicking? Is it Roy’s tactics?21 June 2016 at 1:24 pm #149082Hodgson may well have signed his own p45 with his team selection last night. Instead of a game against a 3RD place finisher and an easier quarter final it’s now likely we will face France in the quarters in Paris followed by Germany. Fair enough make changes if we have already won group but not when we havent even qualified. Build up play is too slow in final third and as we well know at Latics possession stats count for nowt. Was it 30 shots last night? Certainly can’t remember lots of clear cut chances. Same against Russia.
For all his talk I don’t see Hodgson having much of a plan. Apart from throwing on every forward we had against Wales and edging the game I don’t see a cohesive strategy and for me he missed the potential of building momentum into the knockout stages by showing an arrogance we can’t afford in his selection.

What is it then that just isn’t clicking? Is it Roy’s tactics?Overall I think it is the best I have seen an England team play in a tournament for a while, we certainley haven’t looked a millions miles worse than other ‘top’ nations.
We do need to find our scoring boots, and now it is at the knock out stage we should come up against teams that have to come out a bit more that will create a bit more space in the final third.
Defensively I am a bit worried as we haven’t really been tested and I am not sure that Cahill and Smalling will be able to cope, but if we go at teams, we have the players capable of causing problems for any one.
With Hodgsons experiments we have at least found out that Sterling, Wilshere and Henderson are not up to it.
We have also found out we have two decent right backs, but only one decent left back, Bertrand isn’t good enough.
Last night would have been a good game to have played Barkley as I reckon he would have been a better option than Wilshire or Henderon, with Milner replacing the other.
The tournanent starts in earnest from now on, we have got through the group stage, which is always tricky and has not always been acheived, and if we play to our strengths I can’t see any reason for us not to go a long way.
There have been a lot of positives so far, Walker, Clyne, Rose, Dier, Rooney, Alli, Lallana, Vardy and Sturridge to a certain extent, get the mix right along with the tactics, and let the opponents worry about us a bit more and we could potentially see something special from this group of players.21 June 2016 at 1:30 pm #149084Think we need to remember we have played perhaps the worst Russian team seen at a major tournament, a Wales team with a covering of Lower Premier league/championship players and Slovakia. 3 goals is hardly reflective of a team on fire.
21 June 2016 at 2:02 pm #149085Fully agree with Horc, get our shooting/scoring boots on and we’ll be reet, Slovakia came out to frustrate us and succeeded, happy with a point and to take their chances finishing third in the group.
Baffled why Hodgson made six changes when we were trying to top the group, that said… any team would have struggled to score with Slovakia putting 10 men behind the ball for long spells.
We’ll be reet no worries! :)
Fuck the EFL
21 June 2016 at 2:30 pm #149087Can someone explain to me why Jack Wilshere is in the squad and more importantly why he is getting a game?
21 June 2016 at 3:15 pm #149088Hodgson has lost the plot with that team selection, no matter how well we have played .
Look at it from another angle, how many (like I nearly did) have booked expensive travel/accommodation for a weekend in Paris, when we’ve ended up with a Monday night in Nice. Not to mention landlords up and down the country counting the cost of a lost all dayer and employers counting the cost of holidays/sickness on the Monday/Tuesday of the next game.
He’s an arsehole.
21 June 2016 at 3:19 pm #149089Can someone explain to me why Jack Wilshere is in the squad and more importantly why he is getting a game? Both Wilshere and Henderson are so not match fit and short tongue should be made to answer as to why they are there. 2 wins in 7 tournament games under this moron. Play with pace as we do in the Prem instead of taking forever to move the ball and for Christ sake play someone who can cross the bloody thing.
22 June 2016 at 1:46 am #149104For now England are still in Europe along with Wales and The Ulstermen but on Friday we shall most likely be a free country again. Free from the European Federal Socialist State and the corruption and bureaucracy of Brussels.
Freedom or Shackles it is our choice. Being dictated to and herded around by big brother Europe and its thievery or the freedom to make our own decisions is also our choice.22 June 2016 at 3:06 am #149113All was set up to have a longer rest period
22 June 2016 at 12:52 pm #149116You can’t really blame the changes because we were dominant and I’m not sure the players rested would have all scored goals. The ones who may have were all brought on.
It just turns out we can’t break sides down and don’t test the goalie enough.

But i’m not so sure we will win anything we Roy in charge, we are going into the knockout stages with confidence dented and the media on his back. The bloke is too nice, has no conviction & is poor tactically.
Prior to Slovakia I thought playing one of the teams in group F was be a stroll but now i’m not so sure!
He’s accommodated midfield players who have had average seasons and sacrificed two inform strikers. We started ok against Slovakia & Vardy looked sharp but then he got next to no service for the rest of the game.. It’s no coincidence that Kane’s done nothing either.22 June 2016 at 5:31 pm #149130I think if we can find our shooting & goalscoring boots we will be fine. This is IMO one of the best & enjoyable england performances in a major championship since italia 90 & euro 96 & if i remember, they both started off frustratingly slow.
However, at the moment though, i cant help but feel that watching england so far reminds me of watching a martinez style of things. All the possession but nout to show for it.
