Has Kirkland a real chance and if so, is he really one of the three best keepers (when fit) in the country?
I don’t know whether he is in the top three or not, but can he be risked with his injury record.
James seems to have took a step back, Green is too haphazard, Robinson’s confidence at International level is probably shot, Hart they say will be too young, Carson aint good enough which leaves Ben Foster.
This is what our gaffer is saying:
“I keep looking at the Premier League goalkeepers and I don’t see anyone better,” said Martinez.“Probably that label he has got as injury-prone has not helped him, but football should make that decision.
“If Chris can play the next 15 games, then he should be in the England squad because his performances show you that he is assured, he has great confidence and he always makes the right decisions.
“The only battle he has got is to lose the label that everyone has given him of being injury-prone. After working with him I can guarantee 100 per cent that he will be in the England squad.”
9 February 2010 at 12:29 pm #22069In my honest opinion Chris is a good shot stopper but doesn’t command his area well and is next to useless on corners or when the ball is crossed into the box, i reckon he has lost his confidence due to his dodgy back! But he is the best goalie at wigan!

Personally, I think I’d go for Paul Robinson. I think he got a raw deal when he was dropped in the first place.

I think it should be Hart
if you good enough you’re old enough. He better than the rest for me.
Rest have had chances and blown it. Except kirkland of course9 February 2010 at 1:25 pm #22082The three keepers should for the world cup should be James, Hart and Kirkland if all fit although think Capello will pick Foster even though he wont play between now and then.
I think that this may be Robertos way of giving Kirkland confidence for tonight’s bombardment9 February 2010 at 9:21 pm #22117And anyone who really thinks Kirkland is good is just a plain barnpot. There is no better keeper in the prem, haha bloody hell Bobby, I reckon there is at least 19 from other squads, He was ok when we signed him and has declined an awful lot ever since. Keepers for me would be
Green
Robinson
Hart9 February 2010 at 9:31 pm #22121yawn.

HartCouldnt agree more with the Kirkland bit, he isnt good enough for us anymore, never mind england. For the keepers I would take… james, robinson, Hart.
10 February 2010 at 2:34 pm #22248good shot stopper yes – evidence last nights game
crosses / headers – like the way he just watches the ball float by him – evidence last nights goal, the bar being hit etc
he always seems off balance to me

how can you say last nights game was evidence that he is a good shot stopper? He made one rection save (as one just hit him) which was from Beattie, and frankly him (and any other prem keeper) would have been slated had it gone in. He often lets things past him that shouldn’t have got past him.

Personally, I thought the save from Beattie was a good save, and it was the 89th minute. As for the goal, Tuncay had a free header, because he got away from Boyce. Watch the replay and look at Boyce realising “Sh*t, he’s gonna get that!”
With a steady defence, Kirkland would be a great keeper.

My God – a lot of people really do not know about goalkeeping on here.
Hart has to be given a chance as the number 1. He’s a great shot stopper, commands his box and is agile.
From the others, Kirkland is as good, if not better, than Green and Foster.
Anyone mentioning Robinson should be shot. He is great at reaction saves but is completely bamboozled by anything hit from 18 yards away or more. He just never moves his feet and dives from where he’s stood
