How many other clubs have the same type of scannable season ticket as us.
Now the interesting bit, would it get us into another ground. How are these things programmed. Have we any Latics Geeks who can shed light upon this opportunity.
Might try it at the Shitbok on Saturday.

They’re chipped.

Yeah, but nothing is foolproof; there got to be a loophole. We need advice from a top Techno Geek ( assuming you are not that person ). Failing that, I’ll let you know if it works on Sunday.
9 February 2012 at 2:01 am #80937We did it a few seasons ago at Reading I think, I remember doing it but cant remember where.

Question for you then is – it looks like we might just sell out our end. So are you going to risk that your system will work and go without a ticket and maybe not get in?

Yes, but I’ll have a plan B: take a long dark coat and a St John’s Ambulance Cap. That’s worked on a few occasions.

9 February 2012 at 1:37 pm #80952We have a similar proximity card & scanner on the doors at work which I was responsible for getting installed
When the cards come, they are all numbered & have to be activated via the software which links into the door entry computer system.
If a card is lost it is de-activated & the scanner no longer recognises it if someone tries to use it to get in. Likewise if a new batch of cards arrives then they don’t work until the card is activated centrally.I assume that the scanner on the turnstile links back to a similar entry device computer system which recognises the card & activates the turnstile. If the card isn’t on the system then the entry software won’t recognise it & the turnstile won’t work. Your problem isn’t getting the scanner to read the card but getting the software that the scanner links to to recognise it & I don’t think there’s any way round it unless you know the exact software programme that runs everything
If it was just a magnetic card & magnetic reader not linked up to any central device then in theory you should be able to use it elsewhere but I very much doubt that is the case
9 February 2012 at 2:15 pm #80956Few years ago i remember trying the previous years season ticket on the scanner even though i had a new season ticket anyway and it worked.
Thing is we get charged a fair price for a season ticket at Wigan so i don’t begrudge paying for it.
Is that why the new scanners at the DW were brought in ?
9 February 2012 at 2:58 pm #80957Probably
If the current system is anything like the one I have here then at the end of the season it just needs someone to go into the software, select “all” & deactivate then the card won’t work again
I never tried that with my old season ticket although I know people that did & I guess the club got wind of it & changed it for that reason. Or they had the facility anyway & just put a reminder in the diary to deactivate the cards at the end of the season
Having thought about it though, the new system was probably put in to be used in conjunction with the bar code scanner which reads the individual match day tickets
9 February 2012 at 5:10 pm #80963I’m not sure if they work using the same technology but I have, on a couple of occasions and during a senior moment, tried to get into the DW with my debit card. It didn’t work.
9 February 2012 at 5:24 pm #80964Can you get into the east stand with a season ticket for the west stand? I’ve always wondered that!
