4 Great Goals
Boselli – very good
Gomez – Excellent but he will still get booed on Saturday when he comes on
Jones/Watson Good in 1st half not too clever in 2ndCrusat – Rubbish – Jap fella looks promising as did Macmanaman
All in all very good night
29 August 2012 at 2:22 am #92215Fair comments although IMHO you are being a little harsh on Albert. Thought he played quite well without looking a massive threat.
Watson failed to take his chance, but Gomez and Jones deffo took theirs along with a good late cameo from Macmanaman. Not seen enough of Ryo yet to give any constructive comments one way or another. Broke well and had good vision for the last goal, but that was about it.
Oh how I wish Gomez was given that much time and space in the prem, he would be a £50m player at todays going rates. :woohoo:
Tin hat on, trench dug, lights out and sitting quieter than a piece of bread.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!29 August 2012 at 2:43 am #92219really impressed with what i saw tonight.
it filled me with a bit more confidence if we get any injuries. granted forest are not a premier league team, but i saw hungry players who want to play football for latics, and with mcmanaman and boselli and gomez scoring, it means just 2 and a half weeks into the season and all our forwards are already on the scoresheet. that must be a good thing.
agree with fatfan a little bit on gomez, he’s too good for the championship, but not quite good enough for the prem, a shame really coz he’s got the brain and the skills, just lacks the pace.
looking forward to beating stoke now B)

Still think he’s a very useful prem player depending on opposition and situation.
29 August 2012 at 5:25 pm #92234Forgetting 1 particularly frustrating pass by Gomez I thought he was brilliant tonight and the lingering criticism of him is getting a bit tiresome now as the man can clearly find the back of the net.
Apart from that quality cross I am glad that Stam is not our first choice RWB as he was way too far up that pitch for my liking!
He would probably make a half decent right winger for someone but he would get torn apart every week against any decent premiership wingers.
Al-Habsi once again put in a solid performance… It was always going to take something special to beat him last night.
Back 3 looked good and thought Ramis looked very comfortable in the middle of the defense I honestly think he will be considered our best defender come the end of the season.
Watson im not so sure about but he did a job and same goes for Jones.
Crusat was again muscled out of the game I just dont think he has the physical attributes to make it for us but I hope he does well in the future.
BOSELLI – Thought he was absoultely fantastic …
Quality movement off the ball and wasnt scared to come back and receive it either !
I think he could take Di Santo’s place this season if he can find a bit of form although would be a bit of a slap in the face if he did and then left for nothing at the end of the season.
29 August 2012 at 7:11 pm #92237One major thing impressed me about Miyaichi – and yes I know it is just one thing to begin with:
He broke from the halfway line, drew a defender and then squared it to Callum, aware that he was there.
A player of recent vintage (I will keep him anonymous, but his initials are VM) would have gone straight at the defender, ignored Callum, and tried to beat him himself. 8 times out 10 he would have failed, but twice he would have succeeded and been hailed as brilliant.
I prefer Ryo’s approach.
[Cue new song starting “His name is Ryo….”}
29 August 2012 at 9:25 pm #92243So pleased we’ve progressed through to the next round with a convincing performance.
Highlight for me (despite some individual errors in places) was our strength in depth. For the first time in a very very long time we’ve got a a “second string” starting line up that could, if required, quite easily pass as a reasonable Prem starting line up.

McManaman’s skill and composure to finish arguably even more impressive.
Visions of Michael OWEN in his prime ! Coolness personified. Fantastic. That boy’s got talent …
4 goals of similar quality against Stoke, Saturday and our MOTD pundits will be drooling all night about the quality ! (NOT, … because we’re only Wigan)
We’ll just have to keep banging at the door !
