Aye but United sold out your away end. Arsenal hardly brought any that night. Home fan average means there wouldn’t be much in it. You concern yourself with statistics and crowds an awful lot. What’s your obsession with a tinpot club like ours then? I’ll give you one stat. Sunderland last won a major trophy in 1973. Yes. That’s your right your massive club with all its legions of fanatics has not won a major trophy to approaching 41 years. I’ll bet you now that it gets to 50 and you still won’t beat our feat of winning the FA cup in the modern era. Jealousy is such an ugly trait Mutty old boy!

From Matlock to ManU

29 January 2014 at 3:21 am #126511I have changed from hard plastics to soft rubbers. Much better. And cheaper.
Savage four play.
29 January 2014 at 3:56 am #126513Tonight’s results;
Crystal Palace 1 Hull City 0
Manchester United 2 Cardiff City 0These two results are encouraging for Wigan!
Cardiff are well organised but find it difficult to score. They have signed Fabio from Manchester United today and are discussing terms to take Zaha on loan. However, they are bottom of the league and will have to decide where their priorities lie.
At the same time, Wigan slipped back a little from the top six, and also have some difficult games ahead.
29 January 2014 at 11:21 am #126515Yes it was our semi final attendance against Arsenal in the League Cup. About 7500 below our average league attendance at the time. How many lower than their average league attendance was Sunderland’s semi final gate?
12,181 was actually 8,428 less than the average crowd of 20,069 that season, which equates to 59%.
The crowd of 31,547 was around 76.5% of the current average of 41,240.
Are you one of the 177?[/quote]
No I wasn’t one of the 177, but fair play to those that were there. I actually had a pleasant night with my current girlfriend. Now I’m not as prolific as some in that department, but I have had a few previous girlfriends. But I’ve only ever had one football team. After all, a football team is for life isn’t it? Don’t you agree?
And while I was having a night with my girlfriend you was researching historic Wigan Athletic attendances and playing with your calculator. Says a lot really. Now I realise it wasn’t your intention, but you did manage to prove my statement, that Sunderland, like Wigan Athletic, lose a good sized chunk of their support when it comes to lower profile cup matches, even a League Cup semi final. And don’t hide behind the claptrap about us defending our trophy. We only started our defence less than 4 weeks ago, but you’ve been singing the same boring old song for years.
Oh and one last thing. In 2012, when Wigan Warriors where defending the 2011 Challenge Cup their first home attendance was less than 4,200. Criticise that, gobshite.
29 January 2014 at 3:59 pm #126523To be fair 4200 was more than their average attendance when they went down a league, something else the bitter tw*t doesn’t like reminding of!

Wigan RL averages can be found here http://wigan.rlfans.com/fusion_pages/index.php?page_id=489 and have never been less than 4200 ;)
Anyway, enough of defending Mutty….
My point about your League Cup attendance being that Sunderland are supposedly a big club who are doing pants in the league and had a big chance to forget that with a semi final against the Champions yet their attendance was woeful for a club of that size. Yes 9000 went to the second leg which was impressive, but how many had bought their tickets before the first leg?
Attendances for cup matches always drop nowadays. It’s called a recession.
30 January 2014 at 3:14 am #126545Would love to prove them wrong if that’s true however, Had the pleasure of visiting Cardiff for the Great Welsh Beer Festival last June. Absolutely brilliant pubs, beer, people and city. Not sure where the footy stadium is though. We stayed in the Premier Inn not too far from the Millennium Stadium. Well worth a visit
30 January 2014 at 6:17 pm #126557All will be well if, if, if,
Cry the green bells of Cardiff.Set to music by Pete Seeger.
I hope this proves a good omen.
5 February 2014 at 4:21 pm #126838Get past Cardiff and draw the winner of either of the Sheffield games and who knows, we could be heading back to Wembley.

Get past Cardiff and avoid Arsenal/Liverpool or City/Chelsea and preferably Everton, anything is possible.
The old cliché of one game at a time could not be more appropriate!
Ok we’ve even less chance of winning the cup than this time last year. The difference is we have belief. Belief that we can win!
I wouldn’t go booking your hotel just yet though, unless it’s fully refundable ;)
