In the midst of all this furore concerning Wigan Athletic, They sneakily see their chance to sever ties with Ched Evans this morning leaving the media attention to focus firmly on Whelan. Not heard a peep from Sheff Utd today or the Ched Evans saga.

Whelan really does have a knack of dropping himself in it. But this time he has dragged the town with it and given Lisa Nandy another headache.

As I said in another post, could this not be a ploy by DW to deflect the wolves away from Malky, in the same way you have suggested Sheff U have with releasing Ched Evans?

      From Matlock to ManU
      What a journey!

Yes, but their Chairman is not happy with the decision and says that it is a’kin to mob rule. Here is one of his replies:

“The people who believe that Ched should be punished for the rest of his life might call that a victory. I think of it as a defeat for the principle that punishment under the justice system should be left to those that are authorised by law.”

What Ched Evans did was wrong, he went to prison and then he should be given a 2nd chance. Even murderers get a second chance:-

What Ched Evans did was despicable and he was rightly punished. In a free country the law decides what an appropriate sentence is and the offender must pay the price.

However, the judge did not say “I sentence you to 5 years in prison (or whatever it was) and then you can never play football again”.

I agree with the Sheffield United chairman, we should leave punishments to the judiciary system and NOT the “baying mob”.

PS Yosser – who the hell cares about Lisa Nandy’s headache?

What shows here again is how lightly serious criminals are treated.
Rape is an evil violent crime. This Mon should have been too old to play for anyone before release from prison. But that’s the law.

You may be right Donny but a jury heard all the evidence, found him guilty, and the judge came up with an appropriate sentence. Our judicial system is what sets this country apart from many others and it shouldn’t be any other way; there is no room for “the mob”.

Whether we deal with criminals too leniently is another matter altogether.

If that was Whelan’s ploy then it has spectacularly backfired.

He won’t get that Owd Mon, far too sensible and measured an argument
