A mate of mine posted posted this on facebook earlier. My comment to him was that I think Martinez and his approach will be very much an acquired taste for Everton fans.
Not sure they will be as patient with him as most of us were here.
12 August 2013 at 2:36 pm #119204I think so.
Particularly when you see the old things appearing:
“Roberto Martinez … managed to be really positive following an absolutely miserable performance”
“Not a single Martinez signing started the match”
” there was a concern that the emphasis on possession meant that players would attempt to take unnecessary risks”
“The most striking aspect of the whole performance though was just how bad the passing and the movement were – the few decent portions of play were down to players producing moments of skill off the cuff.”
12 August 2013 at 4:41 pm #119210As much as I’d love him to do well and prove to a number of people that I know wrong, I haven’t yet met an Everton who’s given him any praise.
There seems to be a lot of Everton fans waiting for him to trip up so they can lay the boot in.
If things get off to a shaky start, I can honestly see it being a short tenure with an acrimonious split.
Pity.
12 August 2013 at 5:12 pm #119213And both boots they will certainly go in, Standish.
The Evertonians I know did not want him in the first place and have said they’ll let Martinez know exactly how they’ll feel if it starts to go belly up.
Somehow, I don’t think the post match waffle will win them over at all imo.

12 August 2013 at 8:33 pm #119220Dead man walking I’m afraid ,I thought these Everton players are suppose to be better than Wigan Athletics players and take to the passing game better, I can see it already with panic at the back same old tosh when he talks aswell he should have took polatics at school and calm down the Spanish over Gibralta
13 August 2013 at 12:31 am #119225he should have took polatics at schoolI think I know who you’re referring to. We met some new Wigan fans at Wembley – they’ve started following us since moving over here from Warsaw. :S

Warsaw? That’s next to the motorway, where the RAC HQ is isn’t it?

No pity from this mon tho – he makes his bed, he sleeps in it.13 August 2013 at 11:52 am #119237There seems to be a lot of Everton fans waiting for him to trip up so they can lay the boot in.

I think he has a really tough job on, though. Whether you like to watch it or not, there is no doubt that his style of play can be effective. He even nearly made it work at Wigan. I just think that it takes time to bed in the mentality, no matter how good your players are technically. And I don’t think Everton’s players are good enough to master quick enough to match the (lack of) patience and the expectations of the fans. I hope I’m wrong, because I’d like him to do well.
Could be a rocky start, though. 21/10 Norwich home win on Saturday looks quite attractive.
14 August 2013 at 1:36 pm #119286Sorry griff but i disagree as part of me wants him to fail. Im not anti martinez as i do like the fellow but i have felt betrayed in the manner in the way he left – again, not anti martinez as i would be saying the same thing had it have been someone else who had taken us down then jumped ship at the first opportunity. Had he have kept us up i wouldn’t have minded him leaving as he would have achieved his goal & he could have left with his head held high knowing job done & in different circumstances, would have wanted him to have done well at everton, but no sorry, i hope it goes pear shaped for him.
