I don’t normally contribute to these types of threads but will make an exception:
MickyC – Swinton Lions are no more a Manchester club the the Salford City Reds are. The town of Swinton falls under Salford city council & from the Tyldesley side of Manchester you have to drive through it to get to Salford. The last time I heard they were playing at Salford City FC’s ground too
Rodellegabomb – the county of Lancashire (as opposed to the govt/council boundaries as they were redrawn in the mid 70’s covers many towns with rugby league sides – leigh, wigan, st helens, swinton, salford, rochdale, oldham, etc..

WRONG……..can someone wake this mon up. There are NO top flight sides in lancashire….FFS
Here’s a clue…….on my letters it says greater manchester, i’m pretty confident that it shall state the same on yours.
A bit like someone holding a tenner up, but YOU saying it’s actually twenty???????it’s not it’s a feckin tenner.
7 September 2011 at 8:12 pm #71112Lancashire CCC plays its matches at four grounds but only one is in Lancashire (Blackpool). There’s two in Merseyside (Liverpool & Southport) and one in Greater Manchester (Old Trafford).
I still put Wigan, Lancashire as my address, along with just about everyone I know
7 September 2011 at 11:31 pm #71119Royal Mail never accepted Greater Manchester as a county for their purposes. So Wigan has always been in Lancashire for postal purposes, although I believe they are now dropping counties.
For a good reason actually. I live in Garswood which is within St Helens Borough, in Merseyside. However my postal address is a WN4 postcode, Ashton-in-Makerfield as the postal town, and (coincidentally) I have an 01942 phone number.
If I put on my address Wigan, Greater Manchester, it would be incorrect. I don’t live in Gtr Mcr, I live in Merseyside.

Well I live in St Helens, so no it doesn’t say Greater Manchester.
When i lived in Tyldesley I had a Manchester postcode but lived in the borough of Wigan
The fact is, & one you completely & totally missed from my initial post, that Greater Manchester is not a county, neither is Merseyside – they are administrative regions.
Lancashire is a county in the true & traditional sense of the word & contains many rugby league teams.
If you go by your definition of counties then your statement that you lost count of how many sides there were in Yorkshire is incorrect as there is no such county as Yorkshire (by your definition) – its west yorks, south yorks, north yorks etc…Not incidentally that I could give a rats @r $e what counties or countries play the sport
9 September 2011 at 1:24 am #71162TL, why are you even rising to this wind-up merchant/berk?
9 September 2011 at 11:43 am #71164To be honest I’m not “rising” to them as such but if someone is going to be idiotic & petty enough to slate a sport coz they don’t play it in Nottingham etc.. then they really need pulling up on “facts” that are completely incorrect
That way maybe they’ll avoid repeating them in public & avoid tagging all latics fans with the “moron” brush many of the warriors brethren tar us with9 September 2011 at 7:02 pm #71176To be honest I’m not “rising” to them as such but if someone is going to be idiotic & petty enough to slate a sport coz they don’t play it in Nottingham etc.. then they really need pulling up on “facts” that are completely incorrectA noble, if probably ultimately futile, gesture ;)

It seems that even the anti-rugby posts have dried up on cockney liar these days as the chumps on there contemplate trips to Bristol & Doncaster – I predict a long hard winter ahead for the blue third of Wigan.
They’ve been pointless now for two whole months, since they picked up 5 points from 3 games against the sides who came up last season and were talking of Europe! Three more six-pointers to come in November before they play the big guns in December, and we know what almost always happens to the side that is bottom at Xmas….
