only one with no idea
is the one wearing brown shoes25 October 2011 at 4:22 pm #72517THREE MANAGERS THAT WOULD BE WORTH THINKING ABOUT ARE:
O’NEIL
HUGHES
CURBISHLEYTHEY ARE ALL AVAILABLE. I AM NOT SURE IF THEY WOULD COME TO US THOUGH, BUT ALL HAVE PL EXPERIENCE AND COULDN’T BE A LOT WORSE
For various reasons, not one of them would even entertain the idea of coming to Wigan, Horc[/quote]
With all due respect Griff people were saying the same thing last season when some of the darkside were putting forward Hodgson & Allardyce as alternatives to Bobby
One of them went to West Brom (owned by a guy notoriously prudent with the club’s purse strings) and the other went to a Championship sideNow I don’t know if any of O’Neill, Hughes or Curbishley would come to Latics if offered the post but you don’t know for sure that they wouldn’t either.
Its a pointless question coz Bobby is very unlikely to get the push but if he was, if you don’t ask you don’t get25 October 2011 at 4:57 pm #72518Now I don’t know if any of O’Neill, Hughes or Curbishley would come to Latics if offered the post but you don’t know for sure that they wouldn’t either. No, I don’t know for certain. But I’d lay good money that I’m right
25 October 2011 at 5:21 pm #72519I suspect that Hughes would turn it down as he seems to think he is above some of the lesser clubs around
O’Neill I wouldn’t be so sure about – he was prepared to jump into the sinking ship that was West Ham last season until they publicly mishandled Grant’s departure. I know West Ham would have offered him more salary but it shows he’s prepared to look down in the depths for work
Curbishley – unless he’s happy with his TV work & doesn’t wanna move from down south I don’t see any reason as to why he’d turn it downI should point out that I’m not seeing Bobby should or needs to go just that the I feel the “there’s no-one else out there so we may as well stick with what we’ve got” argument is pretty weak (in relation to Martinez not Whelan)

I believe he left Fulham for a bigger job that rules him out then
26 October 2011 at 3:41 am #72562Hughes has not really set the management world alight has he?
Folk on here were talking about Jol a few years back before Bruce came back…but even he’s struggling with Fulham (QPR game aside).
Souness anyone? ;)
26 October 2011 at 11:13 am #72564Yeah but they will still beat us.

Yeah but they will still beat us.What/who is this refering to ?
26 October 2011 at 3:43 pm #72594I think its a generic reply that you can attibute to any team in the premiership at the moment !
27 October 2011 at 1:24 am #72623I would try and get Keegan back into the game ! Is he still up for it ?

I don’t see why not. I think he would like the challenge and it would be great for the club !

If he wanted a job on a lot less money that he his accostomed to I’m sure he would go for it
27 October 2011 at 7:19 pm #72666But if people say it on this site then it must be possible…..I suspect people have really no idea how hard it is to get a manager of class to come to a club like Wigan and truely want to change the way a club is run. Bob is trying that, though most people cant see that.
I do think we need some new coaching staff, or at least someone to stop the flow of goals.
this post is one that crops up on a regular basis from martinez supporters with nothing of any substance to say in his defence.
We cant change the manager because nobody decent will come.
They then praise the fact he is changing the club from top to the bottom, yet no one can see any discernable differences apart from the reserve team doesnt get stuffed every week – but that could also be explained that most clubs in the premiership only play youth team players in their reserve games now, the only real change under martinez, is the first team has got constantly worse despite his rhetoric.
Lastly the flight of fantasy dished out more than any other, “martinez is ok but his coaching staff are the problem” – what utter poppy cock – martinez, as you stated, has started to implement his ideology on the whole club with the full backing of his mentor, but seemingly he doesn’t have the ability to identify or employ a decent coach ?
I am afraid you are and always have been clutching at straws to even contemplate offering this as a credible arguement into the continued tenure of martinez, the truth is and always has been he is not half the manager that his supporters, the media or david whelan claims he is.27 October 2011 at 11:02 pm #72679It all comes down to money I’m afraid and RM is a nice cheap option for Uncle Dave ! Another major factor is stubbornness. Both are guilty of it and as a result we have regressed as a club in my opinion ! I don’t understand why Uncle Dave would want to devalue his club but that is what is happening at a fair rate of knots ! If losing 7 games on the bounce isn’t cause for concern then I don’t know what is ! :pinch:
