It is not very often when a club has been bashed by the media so much about impending relegation, that actually their fate lies in their own hands.

As is the case with us.

Ok we may go down, but if we do. Then it is because we deserve to as our up and coming games are there to be won and if we do, simply we are staying up.

Other teams do not have this luxury; we have!

7 games to go in which Blackpool / Villa / West Ham and even Sunderland are all in the relegation. beating just 3 of these could see us stay up.

Our performances of late are to be applauded as we could have thrown in the towel weeks ago if we’d believed what was being written about us.

I believe 3 points at blackpool, villa and west ham games are going to happen. i also think we’ll pick up points at sunderland and stoke. (which will make for quite an experience at the Brittania if that happens)
      That will keep us up.

You would have to say that since the west brom game away we have played well every match, with a bit more luck and better defending(man u) and also if we could put the bloody ball in the net, we would have at least 4 more points. Carry on playing as we have + some goals and i think it is do able. 2 wins in the next 4 games is very dooable and could see us out of the drop zone, with 3 games at the end where we should be aiming to pick up 5 points.

Seeing as everyone has 7 or 8 games to go, then why is the fate of Wigan in their own hands, when its not for others?

I can imagine the Blackpool fans are looking at their upcoming games and picking three wins from their home games against Wigan, Stoke, Newcastle & Bolton. Similarly, Villa fans will think they can get enough points from home games with Newcastle, Stoke, Wigan and Liverpool. Despite their woeful run, Sunderland have 7 games remaining, of which most are against sides below them – I would imagine their fans are looking towards 15+ points from those fixtures.

With 21 points to play for, every position in the bottom half is in the hands of the clubs in that bottom half. The only thing I would say with some certainty is that it will not be done and dusted until the last kick of the season.

I think you may be slightly optimistic about how many points we will pick up.

For me the one game we absolutely have to take three points from is the Blackpool game. If we beat Blackpool it should shunt us into that pack above us and give us the confidence to survive.

But just imagine if the Gods smile on us and, heaven forbid, we sneak a win at the Bridge. What would that do for our confidence for the rest of the season :happy-partydance:

With my sensible head on, I can realistically see us getting a win at Blackpool, a win against Everton and draws against Sunderland and West Ham (which will be a very tense game). I can’t really see us beating Villa despite our good record there, which means our season could very well go down to the wire at Stoke.

I’m already thinking about travel arrangements to the Britannia

McGoose i see it in our own hands because simply i see it as we control what happens to us. We win the games we stay up. We dont have to depend on others dropping points. It is in our hands. I thought i made that clear. apologies.

You’ll notice that the teams i predicted us taking three points off are in the mixer with us. If we can stop them getting 3 points and pick up the 3 points ourselves, it kind of gives us a better hand than theirs.

Thats why i feel it is in our own hands.

stoke is going to be a mammoth game for us i just hope were not already down by the time it comes. I think it might be that stoke are already safe by the time that games comes so who knows, we could get a win there to keep us up!
its all ifs and buts of course

agree with you there legolad. to me i can think of at least 5 games this season which we have drawn, yet on another day with better luck & finishing could have won the game – resulting in a further 10 points picked up from those games instead of just 5. therefore, our points tally would now be 41 instead of 31 & literally, panic over.

i know we shouldn’t be depending on things like that
                        but everything helps
