Platini has admitted that the 98 World Cup draw was rigged so Brazil and France could not play each other until the final. Surely now FIFA must be disbanded and replaced by a new world governing body. This level of fixing and cheating cannot be allowed in any sport and even though former members have been replaced and brought to book for other misdemeanors the organisation cannot be allowed to continue. What other tournaments have been tampered with or been given to countries for sinister reasons. This must be the end for FIFA.

This is no different than seeding. Don’t forget that Brazil & France still had to win all their games to ensure this “fiddle” worked out19 May 2018 at 9:04 pm #169255Many nations accused FIFA of fiddling at the 1966 World Cup so that England played every game at Wembley.

It matters not that they both had to win it is cheating at the highest level by the governing body. The supposedly holier than thou organisation who was to make sure everything within world football was done to the rulebook. How can anyone even begin to defend their actions. FIFA must go.
19 May 2018 at 9:12 pm #169256I might be wrong, but didn’t England also play a game at White City stadium?
It’s only same as Euro 96 when England were based at Wembley.
In 1966,north west fans were lucky to have the Brazilians and Pele based here. They stayed in Lymm and were impeccably behaved, being very open and friendly to the locals. They were based at Goodison, as were Portugal with Eusebio. The quarter final of Portugal V North Korea, the surprise team of the tournament, was also played at Goodison, Portugal winning 4-3 in a classic game.
Any admittance of any kind of fixing or foreplanning a tournament totally undoes any credibility and respect of Fifa, and something needs to be done.

The White City game was between Uruguay and France and the QF was 5-3 after North Korea were 3-0 up.
20 May 2018 at 5:56 pm #169265It was a fix. The England SF was supposed to have been at Goodison, only for FIFA to change it to Wembley, saying “the most attractive fixture should be at Wembley”.
Still hugely rankles on Merseyside.
And to confirm – it was Uruguay v France at White City, because Wembley was hosting greyhound racing (unbelievable now), and Portugal beat NK 5-3 after being 3-0 down.20 May 2018 at 6:12 pm #169266It was a fix. Never knew the semi should’ve been Goodison. I was only referring from memory, as my mum’s uncle went to the Goodison games, where Pele scored but was also kicked to shreds, and he even had a ticket for the final, but gave it away. He was a Jock, you see. He told me about it all when I was young. He died in 1989, so a long time ago.
