This guy was signed as a very young and potentially outstanding footballer – I agree and have no reason to change my mind from the original reason why he was signed
What I will say though is this
1. When he was signed was it as a left back? or did the management team that signed him put him in that position? My opinion is that he is not a left back
2. I have seen him play at centre half for his country – our leader is now playing him as a centre back in a 3 centre back formation. My opinion is that he is not a centre back whether that be as a central 2 or central 3
3. The guy is an attacking left sided player if I ever saw one, there is no doubt about that. He is strong, he has skill (going forward), he frightens the opposition (going forward), he packs a decent shot and I wish he would do it more, he can beat a man etc etc
Cue Griff appearing with some smart comment ;)
20 December 2011 at 1:02 am #76124Dunno about his best position, but what I cannot understand is why is he not allowed to go up for corners anymore?

hes a cracking left back in my opinion, defensively sound which is the main thing, i think hes loses concentration and zonal awareness a little too much to play as a centre back

Any time he his around the opposition box he should shoot , either he will score ,knock out an oposing player or a fan behind the net he has one hell of a powerful shot on him
20 December 2011 at 6:00 pm #76155Think he’s looked alot better in the 3 CB’s obviously with Jones taking on the first man to beat responsibility on that side.
We were very vunerable down our left side and I think this has sorted that problem. Well done Roberto!!
Will be interesting how they do against Man Utd as we know Antonio on his day can make left back’s look amature.
21 December 2011 at 10:53 am #76185He constantly loses the man he’s supposed to be marking and has a terrible first touch. Awful player.
If he’s going to be on the pitch then he should probably take free kicks.
21 December 2011 at 1:14 pm #76190I think he’d make a cracking wing back as he’s good on the ball, has a good engine on him, packs a mean shot, can defend (most of the time) & can put in a decent cross.
I like the new system Bobby’s been playing recently as it seems to play to the squads strengths, but I’d liek to see it with Boyce as one of the 3 centre backs, Figueroa at wing back & Jones/McArthur in the middle instead of McCarthy

21 December 2011 at 2:52 pm #76195Though mcarthey had a good game vs chelseaThink he’s been excellent in the last couple of games to be fair, and I have been one of his biggest critics this season. Looks to be getting a bit closer to his best again.
21 December 2011 at 3:23 pm #76201In my defence, as a non-ESPN subscriber who was left holding the babies on Saturday my knowledge of the players performances is limited to the 8 or so minutes MOTD showed on Saturday night
Bit of a gutter as I’d avoided the score all evening & sat down with some nice chilled beers to watch the extended highlights on Sky’s Football First only to discover at 10.15 that they aren’t allowed to show extended coverage of the game ESPN have shown!!!
