Just remind me again why we persevere with Gomez, Watson et al fannying around with our free kicks when Figueroa can do that?
Every time there’s a free kick Fig stands there neart ball, without ever hitting the frigger.

Well, I don’t know for sure, but I guess there’s a difference between running at a defence and tw@tting it from 30 yards and trying to coax a dead ball round a wall. Perhaps Figgy is good at a), in fact clearly he is, but not quite so clever at b).

Agreed. Could be a free-kick specialist (with a little practice). Just look at Bainsey (Everton).
Apart from Taylor and N’Zogbia don’t recall much success in recent times. Gomez ?? (maybe, my memory fails me…?).
Hitting a moving ball and one from a dead ball situation are two completely different things.
Taylor could probably hit 9/10 into the top right corner from a FK but not from open play.
Valencia is one of the best crossers in the PL but he doesn’t take corners.
Look at Paul Scholes shooting from outside the box… you dont see him lining up to take a free kick.
The list goes on….
Difference being……we’ve got Ben Watson, Jordi Gomez etc taking our free kicks and Figueroa standing there watching, when he could be launching the thing and at worst missing the back of the net the same as the others.
In Figueroa’s time with us how many free kicks have we scored from, direct, and who scored them. Any statto’s out there?

Variety is the spice as they say….it certainly wouldn’t hurt to give him free rein on a couple of occasions. Shake it up a bit. Give the opposition something to think about. We may have Roberto Carlos in our midst, without even knowing it !
Like I said, other than Taylor and Charlie boy (Rodders a couple), who’s delivered from free kicks recently …. ??
Whilst I’ve time for Watson, his delivery from set pieces is B awful. Gomez… nothing springs to mind (they certainly ain’t be raining in..)
The success rate for Watson and Gomez re free kicks cant be too high surely ! Time for someone else to step up to the mark.
Off the top of my head – Gomez scored aginst Wolves (when we won 2-0) and Birmingham (lost 2-3) direct from free kicks.
Let’s not get carried away with Figgy. We seem to be forgetting the number of times he does a good impression of a thugby player kick between the sticks.
Take nothing away though, absolutely stunning goal though!
It’s just a pity that the premier league teams don’t give him the time that Forest gave him in front of the box.
