unbelievable how these guys still feel good results are just around the corner
and some that bob will still turn it around
well i for one will not say i told you so or that i gloat in what is taking place
what i will say is how disgusted i am at the sight of certain players who dont even look interested in playing for the club anymore
and the lack of respect shown towards the club and its fans there is something very wrong at the heart of the club, and it needs ripping out and starting a fresh
in the mean time lightsi do what you do best dig a hole put your head in it and try to keep kidding yourselves things will get better soon

maybe i am deluded but my opinion is …

yesterday we didn’t dilly-dally around too much, moved the ball forward quite, got plenty players in the box, made easily enough chances to win, and our forward line (of 3) were lively and looked dangerous with the exception of the very last ‘kick’ towards (ok, away from) goal, of course

we were desperately unlucky not to be in front at least twice before we conceded
goals change games and it could have changed for the better for us if hugo had simply scored when he should have

we similarly unlucky to lose to both fulham and newcastle previously

based on the above then good results may be just around the corner

To be fair, there have been hints of a recovery…but only hints and no evidence the team will turn the corner any time soon and are capable of grinding out results.

He and/or the players just dont have it in them.

and yes, i have been a fully paid-up darksider since half way through hi s first season

In reply to bickymon – do you not realise what a great job Bobby is doing with the youth set up???? Don’t let Saturday’s defeat in an FA comp to Scunthorpe kid you otherwise!!! ;)
Spot on with the comments about players seeming lack of care/interest. Personally I was more disgusted with the sight of Diame & Gohouri stopping & standing round when Henry went into the penalty area to create the initial chance for their 2nd goal & continuing to do nothing when the follow ups came in (Sorry, Gohouri moved from motionless to hands on his head) than i was by Alcaraz spitting at Stearman

AndyC – its all about opinions but Latics weren’t unlucky against Fulham & Newcastle or again yesterday. They lost because they can’t score. Its not unlucky to miss the target or hit the post – its bad finishing. The fact that it happens game after game inidicates that its not just a blip either
When you add to that a defence that is carved open the moment anyone runs at them with any sort of pace its a recipe for disaster.
Its got nowt to do with being unlucky

That was the really frustrating thing for me yesterday. There were improvements in all the areas you mention and we definitely did (sometimes) move the ball forward more quickly than normal. But, as others have said, you simply cannot spurn gilt-edged opportunities when you create as few as we do. And that is compounded, of course, by some woeful attempts at basic defending.

based on the above then good results may be just around the corner

Not sure how far away that corner actually is, though. If we don’t get results against Blackburn and Sunderland, by the time we have done with December that corner will be that far away I wouldn’t like to walk it with a stone in my shoe.

Funny how the “darkside” brigade come out in full force after a string of bad results but I dont remember anyone asking for Martinez’s head after he proved them wrong to keep us up last season, or did formations etc not matter at that point???…

Im all for opinions but some of the stuff people come out with on here are borderline insanity….

switch to 442!! gotta be the most tactically naive statement since Sam Allardyce last opened his mouth!

Put Boyce in at CB he is a rock! Stam can attack at RB!! …. Stupidity doesnt even sum this up…

All in all I want Martinez to do well and will back him until the end while we are still putting in competitve performances ! which is something I couldnt say about Steve Bruce’s time in charge…

If you want someone to blame which obviously you all do then blame Rodallega for missing a golden chance blame Ali for slapping the ball back out into the box to be slotted home ( yes he played brilliant yesterday but taking the sting out of a shot and not slapping it past all your defenders is basic goalkeeping)Blame the three players (Diame Ghouri forgot the other) who stood watching as Ali made a brilliant string of saves while the Wolves players grew in numbers inside the box…

I think individual players need to shoulder the blame for indivdual stupid errors !!! its easy to throw it all against Martinez but it doesnt get you anywhere does it ! Roberto wont be sat at home saying im a shit manager blah blah blah he will be looking into the reasons why and how he can change it ! and switching to 442 is not one of those things when your “general” performances for the last 3 games have been very good!

        Rant over

        Darkside… KISS MY ARSE

For me it’s completely irrelevant the way we played when the basics just don’t seem to be there.

Tyldesley pointed out the absolutely inexcusable standing still on the second goal when Al Habsi was performing his heroics only for Gohouri to be taking holiday snaps from five yards away.

Even laymen like ourselves understand teams are built with a solid base, preferably right from the back to make sure the fundamental is you don’t concede before all other considerations.

Bobs lack of defensive aptitude just makes his passing game efforts irrelevant. Granted, Rodallega’s miss put us under pressure but this season so far, and most of last season it has been the same story.

The spine of a team, maybe apart from Al Habsi just isn’t there. Whether this is down to lack funds or misjudgement i’m not sure. (Maybe a bit of both IMO). The obvious lack of a leader is also there as well, with Caldwell seemingly unable to pull the squad together and offer a position where he is leading by example a’la De Zeeuw in his hey day.

Its seems to me that Martinez has to be accountable for most of the shambles at this moment, regardless of his efforts behind the scenes. He can’t do anything about lack of ability because that is probably all we can afford. He can however motivate players to close down better, not ball watch, not linger on the ball and take up proper defensive positions on a regular basis.

I don’t relish being able to say this as i wanted, and still want Bob to suceed but at what point do you have to start saying enough is enough. I commend people on here who can have blind faith and are loyal to the death but as there are many different types of people in life there are many different opinions and ways of expressing those opinions.

I applaud Bob for what he has tried to do for Wigan but i just don’t think we’re the right kind of club or a club with enough funds to buy players suited to his game. From a distance he doesn’t seem able to get his players up for games, all apart from the end of last season when the players seemed to be playing for him, maybe for contracts or because the spotlight was on more.

Pretty much like you Griff I couldn’t care on this one. My reaction when I saw the Alcaraz spit was what an idiot a) for doing it & b) for the inevitable ban that will come his way. I agree he should get charged by the FA & I agree that he should get banned & fined by em. I also think that Latics should fine him the max fine that they can & strip him of the vice-captain position I assume he holds
My reaction when I saw highly paid players (relative to the average mon in the street) not prepared to bust a gut to prevent the opposition creating a scoring opportunity & then to compound it by standing close by doing absolutely nothing as the chances kept going in was far more extreme & led to a telling off from the missus for my language in front of 2 young children!!!

          after some further thought…
i am happy to bet you things WILL get better soon
i will bet you any amount (within reason) that things (the results) over the next 2 games are better than things over the last 2 games (0 points, aggregate 1-5) or 3 games (0 points, aggregate 1-6) or 4 games (0, 2-9) or 5 games (0, 2-11), etc.
you pick a value for the number of games (possibly even 8 to take us up to the end of the year) & you set the wager amount
we can settle up in the brick after the sunderland game, or you can pay me by paypal

out of interest, in all seriousness what would you suggest would be an ‘acceptable’ return of points for the next 8 games? (maybe that would be a fairer bet?)

Sorry to butt into your conversation/argument/debate but I can see a maximum of 8 points from our next 8 games and that’s really pushing it (getting at least one away win and two draws). That’ll be 13 points in the bag at the start of January.

Now call me a pessimist but……….

            #73811

And the Irony is we have players like Salmon and McArthur sat on the bench who want to bust a gut and prove themsleves….

So are you going off points or aggregate scores ?
The last 7 games have resulted in an aggregate of 16-4 obviously minus 12 and so therefore I am willing to wager that our next 7 will result in a worse aggregate if Bob is still in charge ! So how much do you want to bet ?
