It’s an interesting situation. I think that there will be an enormous sense of relief in the squad.
I expect Graham Barrow to give them some enjoyable training. It will be hard to pick the team – all the players will want to show what they can do.
Will it be enough to win? I don’t know, but I do expect them to play with pride again.
3 December 2013 at 4:38 pm #124307I don’t think Coyle being a former Bolton manager had much to do with the stick he received – his performance there possibly, but not just purely coz he was their manager. It certainly wasn’t for me nor any of the Latics fans I know.
That’s not to say the words “Bolton b*****d” have never been uttered amongst us, coz they have but only coz its a handy form of abuse. If he’d made his name at Liverpool we’d have called him a Scouse c***
He took over in tricky circumstances & (on paper) looked to have created a squad capable of challenging for promotion in this division but he got stick because it was blatantly clear he wasn’t up to the job – his team selections were bizarre, where he had players playing at times was odd, the tactics he was using seemed archaic, performances were poor & getting worse and then rumours start to emerge that he had lost the dressing room within a couple of months of the season starting even amongst players he signedI think we’ll lose tomorrow coz it’ll be difficult for Barrow & Stewart to either change systems or change tactics within the matter of a couple of days. If they try a complete change of system & tactic its unlikely the players would have got the handle on them so quickly

3 December 2013 at 4:49 pm #124315Do you think that Barrow will adopt the style of Martinez or do you think he will continue from the last game…it will be interesting to see…
3 December 2013 at 5:46 pm #124318Do you think that Barrow will adopt the style of Martinez or do you think he will continue from the last game…it will be interesting to see…In my opinion, I don;t think that there are enough of the Martinez era players available to revert to his style successfully with only 3 days training under their belts – after the best part of 2 years playing it some players still struggled with it at times last season
If Barrow & Stewart change anything they are gonna have to be basic & to systems that the players are familiar with from past experience e.g. everyone knows how a 4-4-2 system operates.
A more realistic target for changing things a bit more would be this weekend or even the Europa game next week by which point we may well have a new manager in charge3 December 2013 at 6:55 pm #1243193-5-2 Powell in the middle behind front 2 and just go for it.

3 December 2013 at 7:53 pm #124322It will be an improvement if the team has a plan at all.
It will have to be a conventional back four. Martinez practised the back three for months before playing it in the first team. If the new manager isn’t confident in it, he can hardly ask the players to carry it out.
Of the experienced back three, only Ramis is available. The role of the wing backs is crucial. Though Boyce and Beausejour are still here, I don’t think we’ll see it again.
3 December 2013 at 8:01 pm #124323We need a left back!
Stephen Warnock is in the Leeds’ squad – he could be worth a spell on loan.

ROGNE RAMIS BARNETT will do a job as a three.
3 December 2013 at 10:52 pm #124326Do you think that Barrow will adopt the style of MartinezI hope to fuck he doesn’t or we’ll be bored stupid as well as lose most matches.
A mixture of the two would be best, keep hold of the ball a bit more whilst still trying to get forward and score.
Please do not return to possession for possessions sake and passing it sideways and backwards constantly with no intention of going forward.4 December 2013 at 12:15 am #124329I have a feeling whelan will have a big say in the team selection
4 December 2013 at 1:48 am #124330ROGNE RAMIS BARNETT will do a job as a three.Yes, but Martinez practised with a back three for months before playing it in a league match.
The wingbacks have a crucial role – Martinez was only able to introduce the new system because Boyce and Beausejour adapted to the position so well.
The remaining staff haven’t the experience – or the time – to introduce the new players to the system.

Boyce and Beausejour adapted to the position so well.
