Does anyone think we should rest a few against Fleetwood and play a full strength side at Crewe. Surely a trip to Wembley would be of an higher priority than mid-table obscurity.

If mid-table obscurity is all we were seeking then maybe. But we aren’t.
It’s very early in the season – surely you haven’t given up already?

More than capable of beating both with our squad.

In terms of this division we have some good strength in depth.

He’d given up before the season started.

No just prompting reaction. Agree we should have enough in the squad to win both but if we all think it’s games the teams need to gel together could be an idea to play the strongest side in both games which won’t be foregone conclusions.

rest ? you are seriously taking the pish ?? they’ve only played a handful of games this season, there mostly under the age of 30, and they’ve been keeping fit since they were at schoolboy level unlike us lot, they have 3 days to recover ffs.

Yep , I can only imagine your boss saying after 8 weeks in the sun “You’ve been back a month now, you look a bit peakish, take the week off it will be busy next week oh and your on fully pay”

If they can’t play 2 games of football in 3 days there’s something wrong with them. That Wallcott pishes me off, he hasn’t played 90 minutes for nearly 12 months , the majority of them from the starting 11.
Lazy barstewards , get up, get out there , and give it all for the cause!! you get paid a fookin fortune so earn it for Christs sake.
I watched Newcastle last night away at West Ham and most of the Newcastle players didn’t give a flying hoot, they were more bothered about their hair than winning. It was like an M&M Direct catalogue than a football team

Very good point cup winning Mon. Totally agree with your sentiments. Rotate should have been the word
Personally I would not rotate as we need a consistent regular side playing week in,week out.

Unless your job is to compete physically against other equally trained athletes, then no, your boss will never say that.

Modern football’s all about fine margins these days. Most players are at pretty much the same level, so it’s diet, rest, recovery, morale etc that can make the difference.

So if the coaching staff think a 100% fit donnys page is a better option than a 90% fit cup winners, donnys page will start and you’ll be on the bench.

Nothing to do with feeling a bit tired, and it’s not the player who makes the decision whether they play or no.

Sanchez at Arsenal , Ronaldo , Messi look at the games they play in a season. Look at the older Liverpool squads when they won everything. Everything these days has to have a tag or a name attached to it.

When I was a young lad and ground working I had no “fine margins” I had to friggin dig till it were done or no pay 12 hr shifts, It’s all crap. Eat well, rest in between games I cant see why you can’t play twice a week for 12 month nevermind once a week for 8 month.

When groundworking becomes a multi-million pound spectator sport supported by hi-tech equipment and specialist medical staff, then I’ll agree with you.

The niceties of a run in a minor competition are far outweighed by the requirement for the additional revenue of being in a higher league. Getting out of the 3rd division is the No 1 priority, and I would expect GC to play his best XI in every league game until that is achieved.

Let those who are on the fringes play in the cup competitions and prove they are worthy of a pace in the first team.

Ahhhh! Oh how I miss the glamour of the Premier League.

There was a time when the Club or the manager could have been fined for sending out a weakened team (remember Holloway at Blackpool and McCarthy at Wolves) Of course this rule was relaxed as it was deemed that clubs should have enough with the 25 man squad and also play the u21’s.

As Holloway said “who the hell are they to tell me my players are not good enough”. It falls, therefore, into what Standish has said in that “it is not the player who makes the decision whether to play or not” – I expect Caldwell to play his favoured 11 in the league game with a few changes to the cup game (keeping first choice players on the bench as other mature and experience managers would, just in case they are needed). For me, after last season, I feel that the club is in need of a moral boost and continued success in the league and a decent enough cup run would do just that. We would also see the return of the rare “lesser spotted yellow backed tight supporter” to the ground…for the twitchers’ among us.
