Anyone recommend anywhere decent to eat out in Wigan? Been to Fancos and that was decent enough?
Any tips would be appreciated. How is the Thai place?
12 July 2011 at 2:30 pm #68487Only been to the Thai place once and it was so so. Had heard one or two raving about it but it was disappointing (and expensive).
Can’t beat the Indian and Spice Lounge, off Wallgate, is as good as any around. Take your own pop though, it isn’t licenced.
Casa Carlos (tapas) on Standishgate is pretty good too. Can be a bit expensive but he usually has some sort of offer on.
12 July 2011 at 3:02 pm #68488Didnt realise that Casa Carlos is now a resteraunt, always used to be a very sketchy pub in my day !!!
Might give that a shot.

Indians
1 on wigan lane forgot the name is nice.
Jamals next to cinema is alreet all you can eat on a sunday.
Buraq in Byrn is my favourite though its 15% off during the week. Awesome food and you get loads.Beeches is always top nosh they basically do most meals. Abit more expensive though.
Owls is good in the week they do a special 3course for £10. Both in Standish.I sound like a right fat Bastar|)
12 July 2011 at 6:13 pm #68493Buraq in Bryn – definite if you’re into Indian food.
12 July 2011 at 10:52 pm #68498Santibag in King Street West is ok if its after midneet, its 1982,and yer p1ssed out of yer skull!
13 July 2011 at 2:05 am #68508That Spice Lounge is indeed top quality. Better than Buraq, IMO. And Buraq’s good.
13 July 2011 at 11:37 am #68512Many thanks for the advice.
What ever happened to the Chinese down by the bus station… I think that rivalled the Santi Bag for drunken meals !

I think you’re on about Sweaty Betty’s (Pacific Ocean). Closed down circa 1992 due to rat infestation or summat
13 July 2011 at 6:37 pm #68526If you’re after a good Italian meal then Sorrentos at Orrell Post is the best in Wigan. There is a rumour that Francos microwave its food & using prepacked dishes.
I have heard the Chinese Buffet on Standishgate is also excellent & you get plenty of choice on the buffet.
13 July 2011 at 6:49 pm #68527Last time I passed Orrell post it was a bike shop. How times change. Will give that a try me thinks thanks :)

Chinese Buffet is very good if you like Chinese (obviously) and are happy to keep piling your plate high and having course after course (it’s one of those where you pay a set price and just keep going back and getting something else). Not a place with ambience for a special occasion dinner sort of thing, but good value. Probably also suit a works “do” before going for a night on the pop.
A bit like the Taybarn, which is OK in a cafeteria sort of way too. (Sorry if this sounds snobbish  )
14 July 2011 at 10:34 am #68539The Shanghai Palace in Poolstock. It used to be The Beer Engine and long ago was Poolstock Labour Club.
16 July 2011 at 1:39 pm #68566Can’t believe The Raj has had no mention. By far the best Indian i have ever had and im very keen on my Indian food, Award winning, Service excellent, Clean as a whistle, good ambience and top notch beer on the tap. If i was being asked to recommend a place that would be it.
