The famous Man Utd are 969 billion in debt !
Makes our problems look like a teenagers pocket money !
But we are the ones that get dragged through the wringer !

Probably every Prem team guilty, Everton over spent astronomically……as for Europe….they obviously have waivers. Two Spanish giants, Psg etc continually linked with some of the largest transfers/contracts yet still swerve penalties by having the Eufa/Fifa power brokers in their pockets. The likes of Wigan,Bury,Macclesfield etc easy targets……Efl can flex their authority to show they’re in control. Prem football is for the pub/Sky TV millions who never set foot in a ground so they don’t give a flying about fairness and self sustainability, and certainly not about the lower league clubs.

I recall Gretna being bankrolled, even though everyone knew it was a vanity project that would eventually crash into oblivion. Chelsea being sold for £4 BILLION. The list goes on.
I know its unpopular on here, but Wigan’s owners are just as guilty as Man Utd’s for spending what they dont bring in – L1 clubs said last year that you were buying the title, and 156% of turnover on wages is, frankly, cuckoo land. yet very few of you were bothered by Wyke’s £10k a week salary in L1.
Excessive player wages and agents fees are the cancer that needs cutting out of the game and there needs to be a cap in place for each division as a % of turnover, with serious penalties for breaches (ie 1pt for every 1% over). Lets say the salary is 90% of turnover – that would have been a 66 point deduction for Wigan, meaning L2 football instead of championship. Thats the sort of draconian measure the EFL and PL need to take to stop this ridiculous spending spree.
31 March 2023 at 7:51 am #199166To an extent I agree Mutts the Makem but there is one thing that you haven’t factored in and that’s that Latics had five players at the beginning of last season and an whole new squad plus the infrastructure around running a football club had to be built so taking that into account the losses were quite low.
