I think the point is that they take a pay cut to prevent non playing staff from being furloughed, that is where the government saving is and the clubs can continue.

6 April 2020 at 3:31 pm #185966I think they should take a pay cut and help their clubs survive the crisis.
Burnley are just one example but there are many others and it premier clubs are struggling then it is anybody’s wild guess how the clubs in the EFL are fairing !!
The players could easily do it given that many of them will have property portfolios etc and I know ( through somebody else) of a very very mediocre current premier league player with 50 plus houses so income won’t be an issue will it ?
Has to be done in my opinion especially given the gilded lifestyles these people appear to lead.6 April 2020 at 4:54 pm #185967Not sure u are right vince, the government is telling landlords not to evict if people don’t pay rent in both business and accommodation but to add it to arrears. None paying tenets will create a cash flow issue. I have customers all over the world with my job and getting cash in at the moment is a massive challenge, cash flow is what will kill thousands of otherwise healthy business.
9 April 2020 at 8:35 am #185983Maybe footballers who are receiving massive wages should be asked to take a cut, BUT if they are then so should all the others who have such massive wealth. Reece Mogg, Branson, Green, Dyson, Camoron and the rest. It’s not just footballers who earn a lot. All those on more than say £80 000?
9 April 2020 at 11:45 am #185984Vince is right in that they should first and foremost help the people at the club who are struggling. That way the clubs save money but nobody loses their job. If they wish to help elsewhere then they can do (and have) https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52219771
They are quite right that they have been unfairly targeted. Nobody has criticised the likes of soap stars, musicians, other sportsmen or other rich people like GG says. You’ve got the likes of Piers Morgan sitting there slagging off footballers, how much of his wealth has he given up?
Footballers wages are obscene but so are many others throughout the world and plenty of footballers will already either have a charity of their own or will give to causes that they never get the recognition for because we love to have a go at them based on their wage. The simple fact is, if we didn’t watch them they wouldn’t get paid half as much.
9 April 2020 at 6:15 pm #185987So their solution is to make charitable donations
The tax man gets from salary
The nhs gets donations
The clubs don’t get benefit to pay for non football staff so they will probably furlough
But the players will still be paying high tax which could fund that furlough
Clear as mud9 April 2020 at 6:41 pm #185988These guys will have huge mortgage payments.
Ordinary folk being furloughed, taking pay cuts or in reduced hours, footballers would shit a brick if they were suddenly furloughed and would regret their stance of no pay cuts. And these guys have huge bank accounts and a fair few property portfolios. And now were gonna see a players charity to save face.
Tbh I dont give a flying sh1t about he Prem clubs I’m more bothered about 100’s of League and non league clubs that will cease to be. Some of the Championship and League One players will bleed their clubs dry that’s unless thier made to take the Govs fairlough.
Alot of these clubs totally rely on match day money not some filthy rich Russian billionaire10 April 2020 at 1:37 am #185990Vince is right in that they should first and foremost help the people at the club who are struggling. And the likes of Branson and philip green who are asking for Govt bail outs.
Oh hang on …. lets not forget the MPs who are getting an extra £10 000 for working at home. FFS!
11 April 2020 at 12:48 pm #185996As we speak there are 100’s of clubs slowly going bankrupt. Lots of clubs do not have an endless stream of money with players on very good money.
Prem clubs on the whole will survive so I dont a give a sh1t tbh about them these are not the backbone of football in the UK.
When I use to follow England in the 80’s-90’s you would see Bristol, Exeter, Northampton, Carlisle and Wigan flags not Liverpool Arsenal Utd or City.
My point been there is life after Prem and the greedy barstewards. It’s these clubs that need protecting. So is Henderson and the shamed gang gonna rattle their tin in our faces or are they simply gonna dip straight into their own pockets and fund the Charity themselves ??.
There’s a simple scenario here, not just Prem get the players to take the drop and use this to pay or top up non playing staffs wages.
Personally I’ve seen a shift regarding people and top end players. Although they like to think their part of the community their not its them and us. -
