Boethius: It’s my belief that history is a wheel. “Inconstancy is my very essence” -says the wheel- “Rise up on my spokes if you like, but don’t complain when you are cast back down into the depths. Good times pass away, but then so do the bad. Mutability is our tragedy, but it is also our hope. The worst of times, like the best, are always passing away”.

Yep, they’ll be stumped as soon as they get to the word ‘belief’ ;)

I dont know which part of this thread is the funniest, the originator who is under the assumption a piece of 5th century philosophy has some meaning in the defence of the undefendable or even why should it be under a heading “For the darkside”, or the fact a responder thinks he isnt as “stumped” just as much as anyone else in its understanding.

But neither of these things are remotely as funny as what salford missed when he attempted his high brow analogy.

Boethius was employed to the position of Magister officiorum (senior manager) to revitalise the relationship of the church in Rome and Constantinople by a wealthy merchant, it was shown not to be working and his methods and techniques were called into question this led to accusations that he failed to listen to others opinions, after THREE years
in the role he was taken before a meeting of the Royal Council in Verona where he was imprisoned and finally executed along with his assistant Caecina Decius Faustus Albinus.

I havent actually – i’m connected to next doors at the moment but my kids reckon its only usally switched on for an hour or so each evening so i expect to lose contact soon.

The performance on saturday was very promising, it makes you wonder if the manager had adopted the tactics he has recently 9 months ago the rubbish you have posted on this thread would perhaps not have been required.

His internets sorted, and his google seems to be working just fine, LMB, I have no more understanding of that passage than anyone else, but I do know what belief means, unlike some.
I find it funny how you take umbrance with just about anything, do you live with mr brown bill, a pair if piss stained old farts, moaning about all manner of things, that’s the image I have of the pair of you, and don’t say I’m wrong, I can imagine what I want.

    A crying shame…

Calm down Loudy, that was a borderline Martinez compliment.

All I know of Boethius is that he came up with the concept of Rota Fortunae (translated as ‘The Wheel Of Fortune’) and both Nicky Campbell and Bradley Walsh are huge fans of his.

After he invented wheel of fortune, he went on to open a bookies on norley, think it was called 456ad bet or something like that, a lot of cheating went on though, with people doctoring their betting slates and stuff.

It was later bought out by Bet Fredus
