With all the foreign investment ( or not as the case may be ) into premier clubs going pear shaped , even the bigs clubs are on a somewhat unstable footing , we have in Dave Whelan the perfect man for Wigan.
Below is part of an article which agrees with me :
“United have won trophies under the Glazers, largely because they keep their hands off and let Alex Ferguson and David Gill get on with running the club.
But it may now be that they do not have the funds available to plug some of the glaring gaps in the squad.
Factor in the terrible problems at clubs like Portsmouth and Notts County, and the pitfalls of foreign ownership become ever clearer.
The sooner we can get back to the days when clubs were owned by local businessmen who genuinely support the team, the better.
We need people who do it out of a sense of pride, and a desire to bring success to their local area, not just those who are looking to bleed the club dry.”
11 January 2010 at 6:49 pm #17870Yes, but have you forgotten that he makes £60m a year out of the club, and if he wasn’t involved, we’d be playing Champions League football by now?
11 January 2010 at 6:58 pm #17872Are you being serious if it were not for Whelan we would still be in the third divison at best playing at Springfield Park in front of 2000 people every week. I am not the biggest Whelan fan as he has promised war chest after war chest that hasnt materialised however what he has done for the club and the town has been amazing

11 January 2010 at 7:06 pm #17876No, forgot the pies. £75 million then. Should I include the £5-£6 million a year he gets for car parking?

12 January 2010 at 11:55 am #17952So if you was researching a subject of any kind , in order to back up your arguement , you would produce articles which agree with your viewpoint , wouldnt you?
If what you are saying is true , then only people who were the originators of any article could use it to prove their point.
