Especially the 2nd half. That was a good & vital 3 points today.
5 April 2014 at 8:19 pm #129425On Tuesday, Wigan had just gone 2-1 up when Rosler took off Powell (66 min) and Gomez (79 min). Leicester came back into the game and scored a late equaliser.
Today, Wigan were winning 1-0 and comfortably in control of the game. Rosler took Powell off early (55 min) and then McManaman (62 min). Leeds then came into the game and threatened to score, but their forwards weren’t as dangerous as Leicester’s.
I can understand Rosler wanting to protect Powell and other players. But it’s dangerous to cede control of the game with 25 or 35 minutes still to play.
We are crying out for a goal-scoring forward. Rosler started with Powell and McManaman as forwards today – with Fortune coming on after 68 minutes. On Tuesday he started with Powell and Maynard, and Fortune came on after 66 minutes.
There’s a midweek game against Millwall and then Rosler needs to field his first choice team in the semifinal on Saturday.
5 April 2014 at 8:32 pm #129427Have to agree that the substitutions did nothing to enhance the performance. It’s a good job Leeds are crap and we had no injuries in the last 35 minutes..
But we won and at the end of the day that’s the most important point or 3 !! ;)
5 April 2014 at 9:09 pm #129428Wigan are gaining on both QPR and Derby.
It would be good to keep up the pressure and finish in third or fourth place.
5 April 2014 at 9:29 pm #129431Or maybe he thought Powell was being a lazy git and macca was having one, pretty sensible subs in my view. Fortune to hold it up and use mclean pace on the break
5 April 2014 at 9:36 pm #129433Tuesday was the beautiful draw. Today was the ugly win…
I know which I prefer, especially at the business end of the season.
Cracking set of results this afternoon with only Reading winning. 9 points clear of the play off chasing pack, 4 of them now!
Next Tuesday will be even uglier, well at the Millwall end at least.
5 April 2014 at 9:53 pm #129434We’ve struggled all season against the teams at the lower end of the table. Especially when they chase us down giving no time on the ball.. Points on the board is the main thing, but performance is also needed so let’s hope we improve. If we play like that against the gooners they will tonk us!

Fortune to hold it up and use mclean pace on the breakI’d have taken Powell off much earlier – and not bothered bringing anybody on in his place. Arrogant, lazy twat

Disagree. The performance dipped after he and Callum went off.
Callum is the only player we have who can beat one or two players.McLean would struggle to beat an egg.Fortune couldn’t score in a brothel to complete the cliches. ;)
You may think Powell is lazy and arrogant but he can display a touch of class – the goal last Saturday at Bolton illustrates that.
We’ll need some more of that in the next few matches.

You serious with that comment about McLean? one thing he can do is take a man on and beat him. His final pass or shot ain’t that good, and he is so left footed it makes him predictable, but he has pace no doubt.
Powell didn’t do a lot today but I thought the service to him was non existent. Fortune came on and did more in a short space of time than Powell.. And I don’t rate Fortune, so maybe he was a bit billy big time?
6 April 2014 at 3:18 am #129448Agree Jimmy. Powell had nil service from a very scrappy, disjointed and often invisible midfield. When he went off we lost almost all attacking presence and it only started to recover once Fortune came on to link up with McLean.
