Just seen this on Facebook. There is a rumour circling that the former owner of Salford RL has put a bid in for us. He only left Salford due to the salary cap. But left them in a good financial state. Everyone who has had connections with him regard him as one of the good guys who loves to win.
From what I’ve seen it does sound positive. But it is only a rumour as I say.
11 July 2020 at 11:28 am #187837As I commented in the post “Lennigan anyone ?”
I think he would be a good owner and bring a feel of positivity back to the club.
Plus he might have some rich friends in the race horse world that might want to throw a few squillion quid in.Imagine it, he names his next race horse “Up the Tics”
11 July 2020 at 11:38 am #187838Would make a great chant as well !
Koukash Na Na Na Na Na Koukash ! and repeat
11 July 2020 at 2:41 pm #187840My one concern would be that he has no respect for the rules and will gladly breach FFP rules
11 July 2020 at 8:10 pm #187848A fan of St Helens Rugby League Club apparently. Should fit in well at Latics.
11 July 2020 at 8:17 pm #187849Perfect! Statue next to Whelan’s.
11 July 2020 at 8:33 pm #187850I think we should take any offer from the Warriors.
I remember what they tried to do to us in the 80s & 90s and know some of what they tried before that. But both clubs have moved on, have new and younger fan bases, and, life has changed for us all in the last few months.
A fresh start is happening for all the sporting clubs of Wigan, a town we totally love.I would like to see Latics and Warriors bury any hatchets and together stick two fingers up at anyone that messes with us, and do it in the Wigan way.
And I’ve not even had a drink yet!
11 July 2020 at 9:48 pm #187853Warriors are not making any offers. They can’t afford any offers.
Football unfortunately is not a parochial sport/business anymore and requires lots and lots of money, again unfortunately.
Sky and the Premier Greed have totally ruined our sport.
Even Uncle Dave pulled out because of the crazy amounts of money it takes to run a club.
No matter how much a romantic notion of a locally owned club sounds it will take a lot more than Mr Pollard’s wallet to run.11 July 2020 at 10:37 pm #187854Warriors are not making any offers. Hence why he wants to build a consortium
12 July 2020 at 7:21 am #187855Only a handful of clubs are profitable the rest make losses and now with no matchday money coming in things will only get worse.
If Lenegan and a consortium take charge I see more problems appearing down the line.
I’m sure he’s thinking secure the rugby’s future. But not that, what happens when say one of the consortium decides to pull out ?. Koukash is flamboyant and his connections within the racing world are second to non.
It will take someone with money who’s prepared to take financial risks and I’m not sure a Lenegan belt and braces Wigan based consortium are for us12 July 2020 at 8:03 am #187857I think it’s less likely for a local owner to leave us in the mire and it would depend on how much that person invests to keep us moving.
Koukash certainly has the money but he was frustrated at not being able to buy success at Salford and left. He probably won’t be able to buy success here either

Spot on CW; that’s how I see the situation
12 July 2020 at 12:44 pm #187878Has Mr Whelan stepped forward yet? I heard him making noises about wanting to help.
He could get the club back for less than he flogged it to those dodgy fuckers. Over a year of negotiations & due diligence, and Choi was the best he could find to ensure WAFC was in safe hands…
