maybe it was just me but i though that the challenge on mccarthy was
diabolicaleven if the defender had got any part of the ball, which he did not, he should still have been sent off – as it was he wasn’t even booked
ronaldo would have still been lying on the floor 2 days later and the back pages would have been full of it (a la Shawcross)
1 March 2010 at 3:43 pm #24869spot on mate no itention on getting the ball if you watch it again
the ball does not move at all, with the linesman being injured as
well the focus was all on him, ridgewell should be done by tv
evidence as the ref never even booked him :x :x :x :x1 March 2010 at 3:55 pm #24871Definate red, the ball had already gone out of play, no reason to slide in feet off the ground at all.
2 March 2010 at 12:48 am #24964Thought it was a poor tackle at the time, but only saw a replay of it yesterday. Apart from Talk Sport mentioning it, the tackle seems to have been lost in all the Shawcross talk. Having now seen the 2, there’s no doubt that Ridgewell’s is far worse and if anything considering where McCarthy was in relation to the pitch and ball, I would say that Ridgewell”s lunge was totally intentional.
Also can’t believe that the PL haven’t looked at that and charged Ridgewell with violent conduct or whatever, thats even more scandalous than the ref’s decision to let him get away with it.
2 March 2010 at 1:48 pm #25028F.A just said no punishment for him ,well there you have it ,dodgy offside ,doddgy penalty, and a doddgy foul ,looks like the lets get latics out the prem syndrome is kicking in oncemore .
3 March 2010 at 12:46 am #25088He’s clearly ok as he has come off the bench for Ireland to win his first full cap.
Well done James.
3 March 2010 at 1:06 am #25089Didn’t see any of it, but well done to James on playing tonight.
As for that tackle, seen it again and McCarthy is one side of the corner flag and the ball is at the other, now guess which side of the corner flag Ridgewell goes towards……clue, its not the one where there’s a round object on the grass.
I know it wouldnt have helped us on the day Ridgewell being punished by the FA after the game, but we’ll have to be careful as its now obviously ok to tackle our players when the ball is a yard away….can you imagine Wenger, he would have called for Ridgewell to be banned for life.
3 March 2010 at 11:37 am #25114No, no it’s OK – there was a Birmingham fan on Talksport last night who confirmed that Ridgewell simply slipped. Yes, slipped right through the back of the player, into the corner flag, linesman and beyond.
Fair play to Talk sport, that Durham fella was sticking up for Wigan for once. Though only in the context of his attack on Ridgewell.
