In a way, it’s interesting, but then again it is full of the usual stuff…..Whelan broke his leg in cup final, made his fortune, bought club, Three Amigo’s, blah blah blah.
Best part is Paul Jewell’s contribution, but then again it’s all about “lost 5-1 at Wrexham, so I said to Paul ‘do you want me to have a word?”
It goes on and on about the same old clichéd things. The fan they have used for the article is somebody called Barry Worthington, from the Vital site. His quote of “The St Andrews toilets were so bad you had to lift your trousers up when you walked in..” when reminiscing about Springfield Park, is a lie, or at least, an overexaggeration. Yes, it was primitive….but not that bad.
The most important part is right at the end, quote Whelan, “If the manager goes, I go. If we go down, we’ll try and get back up with Roberto…”
Take it you want 6,000 crowds then, Mr Whelan? Because that’s what you’ll end up with. Honest to god, is he THAT stubborn. It makes Ray Mathias sacking, albeit a long time ago, a joke.
I don’t think this club can progress any further with Mr Whelan at the helm. Ok, he’s done a fantastic thing, amazing, and we should never forget that. But keeping faith with a clueless manager, and threatening to walk away with him, if we call for his head….that’s taking the Mick out of us fans.
Sorry, but maybe it’s time to call his bluff. The guy clearly wants away anyway, he’s said as much, so what have we got to lose?
I saw the article last night when i went to the local newsagent for somet else
I only scanned it & was gonna buy iy until I saw it cost £4.30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I put it back
At the very least though without having read the article its good for a publication like that to acknowledge us as the most successful club of their era when many others in the media seem to forget just how much has been achieved at Latics
I found the best bit I did see though was the half-page picture of myself in the article and a personal mention as a “ghost supporter”!!!
I’m raising this to the top of the board again, because I think many of you have missed part of what Whelan actually says in it. Read this, and digest it. If you don’t believe me, go and look at the magazine yourself.
Quote Whelan:
“If we go down this season, we’ll try to get back up again next season, WITH Roberto…”
So there you go.
So the attendances will fall way lower of what they are now, and he plans to stick with him. Have to say, I think I’ll be ‘picking and choosing’ games next season. A Tuesday night in February at home to Colchester will be most appealing….not.
Call your self a supporter dear oh dear the days when you supported a club through thick and thin eh
not any more when the going gets tough Vat fo oks off
Havent you lot sussed it yet? That is all aprt of the great DW master plan
Fed up of the same old same old season after season fight to stay in the EPL, nothing happening, just get our 38 points etc – to spice things up he is sanctioning relegation, sacrificing our club and why?
So we can have a bit of excitment, so we can re group, so we can have the feel good factor back, so we can win games again and be competitive
God help us – how long did it take you to realise it ????
When Roberto first came to us as manager I was asked how I thought he would do….I said I thought he would struggle in his first season and we may go down, but I thought the fans would stick with him due to his past links with the club, and he would be the best person to help us bounce back up.
Well we didn’t go down, so I was wrong there…..but I still think we should stick with him if we go down this season.
He has made so many mistakes, he has signed many poor players, he has not shown any ability to learn how to vary our play and makes alot of poor substitution choices. But he is still a young manager learning his trade and I believe he deserves more time.
AS for the 6,000 crowds comment Vat….not sure about that…maybe the lack of Premier league over accessibility would encourage people out of the pubs and back down to the ground.
