Blackpool boss Ian Holloway: “I could tell some of the Wigan players didn’t fancy it when they were warming up. Their manager is different class, we were all swooning over him last year, so their players should shut up and listen to him.”
That’s who’s fault it is. Players. Before anyone starts whining and crying about Whelan and Martinez (you probably have already, I dread to think what rubbish will be posted here tonight and tomorrow) think about this: fringe players were given the opportunity to shine at Blackpool. They clearly didn’t/couldn’t/didn’t want to. I didn’t see the game, I haven’t read the reports. The result is enough for me.
And Holloway’s comments. A proper football bloke who knows what he is talking about.
27 August 2009 at 1:24 am #6759My thoughts too, Griff.
Here were a group of players who are given the chance to impress and perhaps get into the first-team squad, or even starting places.
If they can’t be bothered doing that then there’s absolutely nothing any manager can do about it.
27 August 2009 at 1:26 am #6765Easy-ship em out if they dont wanna be here! Not exactly a reserve team we fielded tonight either.
Wouldn’t mind betting Herr Scharner was at fault for at least one of the goals either.

who fecking signed them ?
players that were ok last term suddenly just gone crap ?
or is it the players that have been brought in
or is it the real reason – shambolic tactics from a second rate management team.
remember one of our main coaches has even managed to be rejected by bury and rochdale !!
27 August 2009 at 1:31 am #6777“players that were ok last term suddenly just gone rubbish ?”
No, probably not. But they clearly think that a wet night in Blackpool (I presume it was raining) is beneath them, despite them still picking up the same wages.
27 August 2009 at 1:32 am #6779“Blackpool then made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute with Wigan all at sea at the back as Paul Scharner conceded a penalty after flooring the onrushing Billy Clarke.”
Taken from Sky Sports website. Knew it.
27 August 2009 at 1:35 am #6782Is right Griff….
It seemed to me that the vast majority of players from the first minute had no desire to play for Wigan Athletic.
No respect for the fans even though we were yards away from them as they warmed up, no attempts to interact in anyway. They are virtually all using us as a stepping stone,(Whelans own admission) to bigger clubs and the heart has been ripped out of this club.
Keep Martinez, fook the bulk of the players off and lets re build a team that wants to play for us, in what ever league that takes.
To any Blackpool fan looking in, enjoy what you have (reminded me of 6/7 seasons ago at our place) and just hope you don’t get in the Premiership the promised land it ain’t.
27 August 2009 at 1:42 am #6791methinks its players who are in their comfort zone and arent too keen on learning any more.
I don’t know how its going to pan out, but i’ll stick with it in the knowledge that i’m still sure there are 5 or 6 teams that will be worse than us over a full season27 August 2009 at 2:26 am #6839Blackpool boss Ian Holloway: “I could tell some of the Wigan players didn’t fancy it when they were warming up. Totally agree.
Put yourself in Marlon King’s shoes. You have a chance to impress, either for a starting place, or a move before the window shuts. You’d want to go out and bang a goal or two in, wouldn’t you?
Lazy, money-grabbing, git. Should be fired off, pronto. At any loss.

Didn’t go, and you state the reasons why.
27 August 2009 at 12:06 pm #6912There is something wrong in the dressing room. You cant go from how we played at Villa to where we are now!
King needs to be fooked off….he is desruptive (remember Phil Brown’s comments??)
Sharner, well, not sure where he is at…didn’t Bruce drop him at the beginning of last season for some reason…..think he needs dropping again for a while..

It’s simple. There’s no cameradrie in the side, and no leader on the pitch, like a Graham Kavanagh type. A ‘hard nut’ who will ‘ball and shout’ and encourage the others to get stuck in. We had that player…….but we’ve just sold him. (Cattermole)
For me, Melchiot is a crap captain. You never see him shouting at anybody. Scharner? Not a chance. He’s an headless chicken. Bramble? No, always liable to a f*ck up under pressure, so why give him extra? If he was starting games, I’d say Erik Edman may be a candidate. But I don’t know how he shaped up last night. But from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a class defender. Must be to be Sweden’s left back, as they aren’t a bad side are they?
Apart from that, there’s NOTHING leadership-wise, in the squad. It’s terrible.
27 August 2009 at 12:50 pm #6921Have a listen to Holloways interview on the BBC website (The audio)
….He has a bit of a rant saying that Martinez is far better than the players he had out last night and they should so as Martinez wants them to do…because at the moment, they are not…
Time to send in Mr Jones’s Forehead to start butting out some teeth me thinks
27 August 2009 at 1:00 pm #6925Looks well though, doesn’t it? When the opposition manager can see we’ve a load of shirkers in the side, and has to come out and say it.
Roberto is coming across as being too nice, too soft. The softly-softly approach won’t work with the ‘big time chalies’ we’ve got.
Are our coaching staff able to motivate players at this level? I don’t know. I may be jumping the gun, but I’m already thinking we’ve dropped a massive clanger by letting sentiment rule our heads, by bringing the ex-Latics connection staff in.
Could you imagine someone like Souness accepting what we’ve seen recently? No, me neither. We should have gone for Souness, and even had Tugay as his number 2, whilst still being registered to play. Your struggling to keep the ball……so you stick Tugay on for the last 20 minutes. Sorted.
Unless something really drastic happens, can’t see us escaping, this season. Let’s see on Sunday, when we face a really under-par Everton side. Get stuffed there, and it shows how dire we really are.

Now THAT, I do agree with
