A very scrappy game. Before the offside goal, I thought the game was quite even. We didn’t look like scoring but we didn’t look like conceding either. The goal damaged us…some of the players heads were down and there were some god awful decisions by the officials…I suppose it is the luck of a struggling team.
Second half I thought we were quite good in patches, although, some of the players were day dreaming and some of the passes were pointless. The pitch got even worse and I think Redknapp’s tactics were the decider as they started being very direct. Huddlestone should have gone for some of the tackles he was making…just a continuation of bad reffing. 3-0 was a flattering scoreline for spurs but a defeat non the less – we seem to be to easy to play against at times and the last 10 minutes highlighted that.
I thought Diame and McCarthy looked good, N’Zogbia wasn’t as effective as usual. I sit in the East stand so cant see Bob’s actions but I think it would be a massive mistake to sack him…he will come good, just need to stay in this league and see what he does over summer.
Well, the next games will shape our season…I didn’t expect a result today as spurs are a top 4 side and are playing well and have the players to go all the way. Still think we will beat the drop but games against Hull, Burnley, Portsmouth, notlob and Cheat Sham will be decisive.

Deluded? Don’t think so marrer. We played a side who will finish in top four with loads of confidence. You saying you expected to beat them??
I am down because we got beat….but it was a spurs side with lots of confidence and a team who can bring pavlechenko off the bench when we can bring Boyce off the bench.
Some people need to get a grip.

And some people need to realise how dire we are.
Tactics and team selection? Bramble out. Natural choice would of been Boyce. But no. Move Scharner, thus disrupting the Midfield as well. Mindboggling. And that was only today.
Martinez= Club legend. Lovely Bloke. Class, lower division, footballer. Nice, honest, fella. Just out of his depth at the moment. Possibly, we grabbed him too soon. Perhaps another season or two’s experience was needed? Seems very naive tactically, and to hard-set on playing a set way, rather than adapting to suit the game, or individual opposition. Thus, we have no plan B.
Sometimes in life, you have to admit that something just isn’t working. That is the case with Roberto Martinez. For his own sake, I wish he’d walk away. I’d hope he’d rebuild his credibility somewhere else, possibly Spain, as I wish him no ill. But as regards his tenure at Latics, it just isn’t working out. Sorry, but that’s the truth.
21 February 2010 at 11:53 pm #23525It was unforgivable letting them off the hook in the last 10 minutes.
In those conditions we should have been throwing everything at them, not inviting pressure.
Having said that I don’t see the point in harping on about changing the manager, his job is to keep us up, and I think he will.
21 February 2010 at 11:56 pm #23527Good summary J.C.
Like I said in another post, for 80 mins there was nowt in it. If we’d have snatched an equalizer I don’t think Spurs would have grumbled in the least.

22 February 2010 at 12:33 am #23555A team thats on form, just drawn with Bolton and been beaten by Wolves, thats some form. Lets face it our team is not good enough.
22 February 2010 at 11:20 am #23605oh…OK. So because notlob drew and Wolves beat them then by virtue, we should have won?
Just hang on, I will ring the Premier League this morning and tell them to knock three points of us because there is no way we should have beat Chelsea, because they are top and have beaten Arsenal and Totenham this season and there two teams we have lost against…
…FFS!
22 February 2010 at 11:25 am #23607Not a bad summary, Jimmy.
22 February 2010 at 12:41 pm #23618Not a bad summary, Jimmy. You know Griff, is it so bad that some “fans” need to boo the players off and call for Bob’s head? We are in transition from slogging it up field to being a little more composed. I know we are starting to be a little more direct but that is due to the position we are in. I still think Bob will come good, the players he has bought have been arguably better that what Bruce brought in (ok – with the exception of Palacios).
We were on a par with Spurs for 80 minutes, but a bit of class, support from the officials and confidence broke it for spurs…
If you look at some of the games over the season like the two points dropped against Stoke because Rodders missed a 90th minute penalty then we would be a little further up. We are amongst teams like Cheat Sham, Sunderland, notlob etc…are people saying we should be automatically above these teams because we are Wigan??

Personally, I can actually see some progress and potential in the way the team is being set up to play. Of course they haven’t mastered it yet, not by a long chalk, and I hope we can stay in the premier league long enough to master it because it will certainly take longer than one season. Actually, I think we will, because I happen to think there are at least 3 teams who will struggle to get as many point as we will.
If that makes me deluded, fair enough. But to be honest, I am tired of trying to defend this view in a reasonable manner when the people who disagree seem to think that hurling around mildly racist and cheap insults makes them cleverer than everyone else.
22 February 2010 at 1:11 pm #23627Have to agree, there were some very nice touches and quick passing yesterday…things are improving.

Normally Griff I would agree with you, but on this occassion I dont – lets say that RM will still be here next season, so – who else will be here
In my view several of the current players will not be here
In my view players will be brought in but they will not be of the ‘desired’ quality
Therefore you cannot teach players in a revolving door situationNow if you are talking Championship – the quality may be here

Staying in the Premier League gives us a better chance of keeping those players, I guess. And you don’t know for a fact that any new players will not be of the desired quality, though I know where you are coming from with that comment.
