I have always thought BBC reporting was OK – but read this load of old recycled garbage!
Particularly the last section.
7 April 2015 at 2:58 pm #140913It is sort of true though
7 April 2015 at 3:03 pm #140914I hope you haven’t joined the “we’re not a big enough club for higher divisions” brigade? Why not just let Leeds and Wolves into the PL and close shop?
The managerial shenanigans have been a result of, not the cause of, our poor results.
Boardroom confusion? It was always planned that DW would step down.

I didn’t think he would choose to step down mid-season when things were not going well and the shadow of the FA inquiry still hanging over the head of the manager! Complete shambles from top to bottom but some will still have the neck to say we are a little club and belong in lower league football! We had a great chance to establish ourselves as a Championship club at best with maybe the odd season or two in the Prem but the penny pinching soon put a stop to that! Whelan had Steve McClaren sat in his fucking office wanting the job of manager and he chose Owen Coyle!! Laughable, just laughable!
7 April 2015 at 5:45 pm #140933A bit hypocritical of the Beeb this. I was listening to 5 Live on the way home from the match. They were interviewing the Bournemouth manager and the reporter was going on about their support being fantastic as they had 11000 on. 11000 !!!!! for a team pushing for the prem in a town with double the population of Wigan and no major clubs on their doorstep.
7 April 2015 at 7:53 pm #140936The problem lies far deeper at Wigan than any manager could possibly fix. The BBC thinks crowds wins you trophies, how wrong are they, and with a drop more luck we could have even made it back to back FA Cups, not bad for a club with no fans
7 April 2015 at 11:04 pm #140961None of these smart arsed fookers who like to write about us in the negative EVER get to the real problem we have and will always face. We haven’t got big clubs as neighbours to contend with we have 2 of the biggest in world football plus the richest club as well and I’ve not even mentioned Everton who get over 30’000 at every game. We didn’t have a league team till 78 and so Wigan folk have historically supported the big 4 and they are all pissing in our pond. It is much easier for the fookwits to say “Wigan is a rugby town” than to actually do a bit of research and come up with the crux of the problem.
They also fail to mention that over the years the people of Manchester and Liverpool have moved out of the Inner City and into the suburbs Our Borough. It is lazy journalism at it’s best and an easy way to make a story. No other club in England has the problems we have and not from Rugby League but from football itself.
8 April 2015 at 12:38 am #140985spot on ! And while we’re at it what about Burnley “a proper football club” so many say , how many are they averaging
In their 22,000 capacity stadium ? I expect they are selling out each home game are they ?As for their relatively low population it should be remembered that like many other more fortunate clubs there’s virtually ball all within a 20 mile radius and so they’ll monopolise the surrounding small towns an villages. (Doubt Accy are pinching too many off them)
Clubs like Norwich and Ipswich draw support from a County/region , we have no hope of doing that
