John – the Shearings trip was from the club, not the supporters club.
We had WAFC stewards on board. Nothing to do with WASTC.
21 September 2013 at 5:22 pm #121280Garswood, I pressume you were one of the lucky one’s on the Shearings coach that caught the 10.15 ferry.
In order to help with my complaint letter, can you supply details of service station stops on the way down with details of times and time you arrived at the port with any details/ delays experienced.21 September 2013 at 7:02 pm #121282We stopped once at (I think – it was early!) Newport Pagnall for half an hour at around 6. M25 wasn’t too bad (although I was dozing) and Dartford Bridge seemed fairly OK, as much as it ever is.
We got to Dover about 9-ish, but going through passport control took ages, as did then queuing to go through the ticket barrier. We got onto the ferry just about in time (We saw one Shearings coach which was close behind us and didn’t get through the “cut-off point”), as by the time we got up on deck we were setting off.
At the Calais side our driver drove around a carpark at the terminal to a pre-arranged pick-up point, and swapped drivers – there were three Shearings drivers waiting.
She (our driver) got off saying she was going to go the sleep and would pick us up in the morning. The new driver then took us to Bruges, we got there about 2:30.
Afterwards we set off to Calais, changed drivers, and our first driver brought us home.
21 September 2013 at 7:15 pm #121283Town.. You say you only had one driver?? George says they had two drivers That would be my first question. It would appear that as Shearings have had to hire the other coaches, they were reclaiming some of the cost back by only having one driver? Why chose Shearings anyway? Eavesway are the regular coach company used by the Travel Club???

as I said above – this was organised by Wigan Athletic, not by the Travel Club.
21 September 2013 at 7:35 pm #121286George You have got to ask yourself why did the Travel Club not run any coaches then??? To much trouble probably. ;) But to be honest they are a ‘Travel Club’ in name only. All they do is take bookings for Eavesway’s coaches.
21 September 2013 at 10:36 pm #121292Dont want to get into a ” our trip is better than your trip ”
But ….shearings need to take a good look at leaving a 15 year old lad stranded at the ground and returning without him
Our young organiser on coach ” A” got him on board and home safe ,
The driver and anyone checking a passenger list needs a serious look at themselves
21 September 2013 at 10:54 pm #121294Sorry gekko, but I have to ask:
Are you saying a 15-year-old went there on his own?
21 September 2013 at 11:33 pm #121297No idea he came to my lads coach in tears asking could he jump on ?
22 September 2013 at 3:47 am #121300Didn’t fancy 2 nights on a coach. Went by car through tunnel, arrived about 4. Had a few beers in t’zand square, a very surreal sight of a few hundred merry latics fans being escorted to the ground by a couple of belgian plods on bikes!
Great trip, long walk to the ground in the rain but a brilliant atmosphere (could take your beer to the seats) Good B&B and a lock in at the bar on the square.
Town Green, let me know if you are planning away trips, few of us live in Ormskirk.
22 September 2013 at 11:36 am #121303Edinburgh as a matter on interest what was the advertised time for your arrival in Brugge? Was it the original time i.e. the one quoted for leaving at 1.00a.m. or the later revised time If when booking originally you were quoted a 1/2 day in Brugge and you only had 2 hours, You are quite easily pleased. I would be down at their offices of the club and Shearings first thing Monday morning. As you booked through the club I would think they are responsible. The logistics of leaving at 3.30a.m. should have alerted people that they wouldn’t have the original allotted time in the city. You don’t need a degree in Maths to know that if by leaving at 1.00a.m. they state an afternoon free. By leaving 2 1/2 hours later means you aren’t going to get that same amount of free time. When I booked they told us we would have 3 hours in Bruges but ended up with 2 hrs 10.
22 September 2013 at 12:34 pm #121304Garswood, thanks for your response, the fact that the three Shearings coaches arrived at Dover at 9.00am adds weight to our argument with them as the three sub contracted coaches only arrived after the 9.45 deadline. Coach no 5(sadly mine),the last to arrive only arriving at 10.05.
Shearings in a article in the Wigan Evening Post on Friday blamed the delay in the three coaches missing the boat on Customs when this was clearly not the case.22 September 2013 at 2:03 pm #121305Think you will find that as shearings is a good advertiser with the lep do not expect much of a knocking for them
26 September 2013 at 2:39 am #121479Andrew Nowell has taken up our case and their is an article in tonight’s Wigan Evening Post (Page8). Neil Ryan from Wigan Athletic has also contacted me to advise that Shearings will be writing to everybody who missed the 10.15 ferry offering compensation.
