I’m not wishing Bradford good luck in the next round they fekin robbed us of a result tonight,
I can’t believe you have said that, City played with a near reserve side like you did, One of our players has only ever made a sub appearance for us last season, and for as being robbed, no such thing, it was 11 men v 11 men, City players didn’t miss your chances, your Wigan players did, We came with a game plan of trying to contain you and it worked.
For what its worth I agree with you mate.
Whatever the statistics say the matter of fact is you did what you came to do.
Congratulations and good look for the next round.
Thanks mate, appreciate that.

Bradford didn’t win it , we lost it.
31 October 2012 at 3:29 pm #95986An opportunity missed by the club and an opportunity missed by some fringe players to make an impression and put some pressure on the first team. Their loss – yes, that’s mainly you Ronnie Stam.
The team that Martinez picked was well capable of winning that game and had it took just a few of its chances it would have done so easily.
Oh, and for those one-eyed idiots who will heap all the blame at the door of Senor Gomez, take a look at this extract from the report by the BBC man at the game.
Ramis, who scored a spectacular opener in the 2-1 win over the Hammers, had the ball in the net inside the opening 10 minutes, but the stand-in skipper’s header from Gomez’s drilled free-kick was ruled offside.
Gomez then dissected the Bradford defence with a delightful pass to Mauro Boselli but he dithered and keeper Duke smothered the ball as the Argentine striker tried to take it around him.
The elegant Spaniard was at the centre of everything good for Wigan and was the closest to a first half opener with two delightful volleys.
The first, in the 16th minute, was inches was over the bar while the second, on the stroke of half-time, was spectacularly tipped over by Duke.
Just saying…
31 October 2012 at 3:36 pm #95993I’m glad I stopped at home too – that Reading v Arsenal game was a cracker!Still, at least half the crowd at the DW tonight went home happy.

No not Stam unfortunately, but Bosselli
Just saying (MSN) ….
Wigan looked comfortable in the early stages and thought they had taken the lead in the 10th minute when Ivan Ramis, captain for the night, headed home Gomez’s free-kick, only to see the referee’s assistant raise their flag.
Five minutes later Mauro Boselli found himself through on goal, but he made a hash of an attempt to go around Matt Duke, appearing to roll his foot over the ball, and the goalkeeper was able to save.
Boselli then nodded down a Ronnie Stam cross for the lively Gomez, who volleyed over the bar.
Boselli was not making the most of the chances that came his way, seeing another header in a good position amount to nothing before sending a low shot inches wide when he had the time and space to do better.
He again failed to finish shortly into the second half of extra-time, clipping tamely into Duke’s arms, and Gomez was then guilty of profligacy, fluffing a one-on-one opportunity.
As I said earlier, Kone/Di Santo have no worries (Bosselli/Gomez).
Penalty-wise, one for statistics, unfortunate that our two regular pen takers (Maloney, Gomez) failed to covert last night for the FIRST time (unless I’m mistaken).
Bradford’s penalties were all top-drawer. Their goalie cut a mean presence in goal (mean brute). Possibly psyched out Maloney …..

Another failed attempt from our own regular wooden spoon merchant ! Roughly 50% of our fans didn’t bother !

Not really ! It is exactly the first thought that popped into my head when the 120mins were up ! Back to the empty stand Salford, I was trying to say that despite not having to face the Bradford fans for the pens, at the same time we didn’t gain an advantage which is normally the case in such a scenario !

Thought Stam was class for the first 8 mins., but then started to huff, puff and get caught out time and time again by the tricky winger Hines.
My mate has been harping on for weeks that Stam should be given a chance for the right wing back role, but after last nights match he has had 17 Boyce printed on the back of his shirt. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!31 October 2012 at 9:03 pm #96035Anonymous
Right, I’ve waited until now so I can calm down a bit and not be accused of making a knee-jerk reaction.
That last night, was a disgrace. It really was. As soon as we saw the team Martinez had put out, we were rolling our eyes at each other and thinking “Oh oh, this could be TOO weak a team”.
But then you looked at it, and it consisted of our first choice keeper, a first choice centre-back, the rest of the side was mainly players with enough first team action, apart from McManaman and Redmond. Whilst up front, we had the 6 million Boselli. Surely it would be enough to beat Bradford. But no. Apart from Al-Habsi, Watson, and Ramis, I don’t think any of them performed anywhere near good enough. I can’t understand how some folk on here have slated Watson. FFS! He was asked to play centre-half when he’s a bloody midfielder! Here’s a blunt assessment of the team.
AL HABSI-No criticism. Did nothing wrong.
RAMIS-No Criticism.
WATSON-Filled in admirably at the back, no criticism.
LOPEZ-Didn’t do much wrong really.
STAM-Looked out of his depth. Always seems to have to really bust a gut to beat a man and get a ball over. Not good enough.
REDMOND-Young lad’s not good enough yet.
JONES-Poor. Very avearage against a League 2 side.
GOMEZ-Poor. Just not good enough.
FYVIE-Poor. Looked nowhere near good enough.
MCMANAMAN-Did ok first half, but doesn’t look Premiership standard.
BOSELLI-Abysmal. Looked nowhere near good enough.Subs: MALONEY-livened things up, BEAUSEJOUR-Lively but I’m not convinced he’s good enough. ORSULA-Waste of a sub, going into penalties. Surely Kone would’ve been better?
For me, Stam, Jones, Gomez, and Boselli should NEVER play for us again. I will give Fyvie a chance, as he’s only a young lad. Looked ordinary to me though.
Whatever way people dress it up, it was embarrassing. It DID show contempt for Bradford by playing such a weak side, a total lack of respect. I recall going to Villa Park, circa 1994 in the same competition. We were then a bottom flight club, Barrow had just taken over as manager, and as a club we were on our arses near the bottom of the entire league. Did Aston Villa play a weak team against us? No. Ron Atkinson played his stars, and they did us 5-0 with goals from Dalian Atkinson 2, Dean Saunders, Dwight Yorke, and Nii Lamptey. They well and truly hammered us. But at the same time, showed us a great deal of respect.
And that is exactly what we should’ve done to Bradford. Played a strong side, won by 4 or 5, and played some class football. We may have gained some confidence from it as well.
But no. It was a shambles. It’ll be the last cup match I go to for a while, unless it’s a semi or a final. The worst thing about last night? (For me, personally) I’ve just got my 6 year old fully interested in Latics and going to the match. He was so fed up and looked absolutely p’d off last night, I don’t think he will want to go again. I don’t blame him, actually.
F****** un-defendable, that shower last night. No clever reasoning or smart-arsed comment will convince me otherwise. Just NOT acceptable at all and I wish Whelan would fire a rocket up Martinez for it.
