I’ve been seeing posts about the lack of goals this system brings that Bobby plays.
Jewell 05/06 – 45 goals
Jewell 06/07 – 37 goals
Hutch/Bruce 07/08 – 34 goals
Bruce 08/09 – 34 goals
Martinez 09/10 – 37 goals
Martinez 10/11 – who knows, but its on a par for 33ish.
So taking Jewell’s 1st wonder season out, Martinez has equalled or bettered the goals scored in the othe three top flight seasons.
So what is this lack of goals under this system comparing against? Man Utd, Arsenal?

I live in the now, not in the past or the future, and as of now we have scored less goals than anybody else in the league. So you could say that I am comparing this system against the other 19 teams in the Prem ! Is that negative enough for you ? I like to call it being realistic ! ;)
Those stats do illustrate how difficult it is to score in this league and why strikers who can bang in a few goals are worth their weight in gold.
I like Hugo and have always thought he has loads of potential, but it’s a mark of how good the defenders are in this league that he struggles to score more than 10 goals a season

That is in some ways is the most reassuring post I’ve ever seen on this site, but also highlights just how tight our results have been/will be.
The focus therefore has to be on freezing out the opposition until we get the first goal and then seeing the game out (ideally with another goal). My view is that is probably the system Martinez is trying to play, but we’ve only see rare flashes of it and often not in combination.
