Under the circumstances, I don’t think it’s a far-fetched request. I’d have liked to have seen what the French re-action would have been, had the boot been on the other foot. (I actually think the game would have been replayed).
Sepp Blatter has just been on laughing about Ireland’s request to be a 33rd team in the World Cup. The man is a disgrace. He’s laughing and mimicking about it. The powers that be at FIFA are all bloody pro-French, anyway. The problem would be that with an odd number of teams, byes would have to be used in the group stages, or something.
Some Ireland players will have been denied the chance to go the the World Cup, and players such as our ex player, Kevin Kilbane, won’t get another chance.
I dont recall England calling for a replay after the infamous ” Hand of God ” incident. It was a case of accept the Refs decision and tough luck so the Irish need to get over it. The Refs decision is final as many teams find out much to their disgruntlement from time to time !
I actually agree with you, but what would have happened if it had been France who were to miss out?
Platini, Blatter, and co, would have done something. It reeks.
I think it was Blatter laughing about their request on SSN, that p’d me off.
You cant just replay a game because of a controversial incident otherwise there would be requests being put forward week in week out ! It just isn’t plausible. The Ref is at fault and his assistants are also accountable for this unfortunate occurrence but who knows what would have happened if it hadn’t have stood ?? We just dont know and a replay was not the answer !
