Thought Gomez improved in the second half, as did all the team.
We also seemed better when Scharner came on.
Things are slowly starting to look better and the lads look to be gelling.
Can’t help thinking that Rodallega needs a bit of support up front.
The jury is still out on Scotland, looks as strong as an ox, but unfortunately seems to also have the touch of n ox.

Agreed. I think the lad is a class player but he is way, way too slow and wants way, way too much time.
We can’t afford the luxury of giving a player like him the time to catch up with what the Premier league is all about.
That said, I see the witch hunt is in full force, if all the nobheads in front of me slagging him off anytime the ball even looked like going anywhere near him are anything to go by. At least wait for him to f*** up before you have a go. Still, nothing like jumping on a bandwagon boys, is there?
The comments about this lad are pathetic. He might become a great Wigan player but his style will need time to be appreciated. Enjoy the fact that we won and stop moaning.
For what its worth Gomez got 8/10 in NOTW. I would have awarded him 3/10 in first half and 7/10 in second. What I will say, is for the first time in ages, we have a player who can win dubious free kicks to help take the momentum out of the game when we needed it.
I counted at least 4-5 times in the last 10 mins that he “fell” to the ground and won a free kick, just as wet spam looked like putting us under pressure.Give the bloke time FFS he has only played 5 games in the prem, I saw a big improvement in Scotland yesterday on previous outings, these two may actually do us a job this season.

From my view from ES3…
Thought we were quite fluid with our passing, moving the ball round well and not hoofing it up at every opportunity. Thought Diame was fantastic…reminds me a bit on Patrick Viera, can win a ball and has good feet (I think he will be better than Cattemole..so good business again Mr Whelan!!) ..he can also put it about when he needs to. Thomas was outstanding too as was N’Zogbia…and all this about Gomez, yes, he needs to quicken up a bit, but some of his touches and off the ball movement was superb…I thought it was a very entertaining game!
Things that wern’t so good but will improve…The back four need to talk more with Kirkland. There were several instances where Boyce or Bramble were sort of leaving the ball to run to Kirkland, an Arsenal or Chelsea would have capatilised on mistakes such as that…they need to focus.
I watch a lot of Spanish football and you can see what Bob is trying to do…If anybody watched the Madrid v Espanyol match you would have seen the gradual passing movement up the pitch, running into space, players playing off one another….and yes, both teams were playing with one up front (although it changed latter on in the game!) The football is excellent to watch.

I thought Gomez drew 2 or 3 decent saves out of Green, as well. Diame reminds you of Patrick Viera? Good call, as I was thinking all match who he reminded me of, and you have hit the nail on the head. Potentially a better player for us than Palacios, I think.
I call upon our fans to have more PATIENCE with our deliberate build up play. One old codger (Must be 75 at least) near me, complete with flat cap and scarf, nearly has a bloody heart attack shouting “Get it bloody forward!” all the time.
The old 2hat is doing my head in. Still, he’ll be dead soon. Sooner, if he doesn’t calm down.
just goes to show how opinions in football differ,diame looked a class act and will only get better with more games easily MOM ,thomas is one of those players who looks like he isnt doing much but you only realise how much you need him when he is not there,again this lad looks class and will only get better,
figgy for me at the moment is all over the show compared to him last season ,i hope the sunderland talk has not unsettled him,kirkland gets worse with every game,he doesnt command his area,and his kicking is woeful.gomez,well what do you say,he has undoubted ability with the ball,but will he prove to be wigans ‘lee trundle’ – he is slow and gets caught with the ball to often.
nzogbia – i have been screaming for martinez to play him in his natural left hand side roll,so when koumas went off the stage was set,in fact he was worse then than when on the right earlier,for a player who is our record signing i expect more from him,in fact i will go as far as saying apart from odd occasions,since signing him in january he has been p!ss poor !!!scotland – only one thing to say bring back agadododo or what ever his name is, i know that fans dont like king,but he scored goals for watford,hull and borough at this level,and seeing as we are stuck with him for now surely he cant be worse than scotland,and remember king only played for us with bruce’s hoof ball tactics,he may surprise us with martinez’s floor play.
scharner was mom at everton and gave us some ‘oomph’ when he came on yesterday, bramble and boyce looked steadier,melchiot is an ageless class act,koumas could easily play in the gomez position and where we all agree rodelega needs support-either a second striker or someone closer to him(ithe roll i think king could play)
martinez,- seems to have realised the need to move the ball quicker and sometimes you cant play football,when a battle is needed,he just needs to get sinclair on the pitch for longer and get both him and nzog running with the ball a little more.
“me” overall a little more relieved after the way we battled yesterday, my worry has always been pretty football is all well and good but teams like bolton , and stoke and blackburn will get stuck in to us and we need to adapt our game to suit.

oh and last but not least- that feccing drummer-for christs sake lad i admire your endevour but please do one of to things – a) take a time out every 5 mins or so give us miserable owd gits a rest or b) go and have a few drumming lessons , i am sure there are plenty like me who would contribute to the cost.
