Woolery – or has he already gone?. I can see Lavercombe on his way as well

If anyone comes in with money it could be Grigg, Powell, Burn or Power but probably Woolery first.
So that in effect is two strikers gone in less than a week and half and one friendly before the season starts. Cracking preparation yet again.

I can. I think Cook will want to bring in a more experienced keeper as back up to Walton & (purely based on the fact that he started against Southport) i think Cook prefers Owens so if one was to go it’d be Lavercombe

Not sure what preperation you expect? With the windows working how they do its tough to do business in pre season.

Mandron & Woolery clearly aren’t good enough however it makes sense that Cook has been told that the bloated squad he inheritted must be trimmed before anyone else is brought in (something that I’ve no doubt he was aware of before he took the post on) so I see no problem with what has happened & expect to see new faces brought in as a result – Noel Hunt seems to be nailed on.

You’re right though that if bids come in for any of our players that matches the club’s valuation then they’ll be off. Unfortunately as the premier league money is now a dim & distant memory that’s how it’s gonna be from now on

One thing i think most latics fans have learned the likes of burn powell grigg if sold it will only happen late on transfer deadline day with no time to replace them

How often does actually happen in reality?

I’ve said same all along about another keeper as well as Walton I see where your coming from regarding Lavercombe, he clearly is not going to make it here and I agree that he will go if we sign somebody else. The problem still remains however should Walton be recalled we will be light in that department.

Preparation I mean is actually match time the players will have had before the big kick off.
On the striker front, I am almost sure that the ones who have left would have been known weeks ago so a replacement even if it’s the 98 year old Hunt should have been in place.

Those 4 key players are NOT going anywhere. I don’t know why people keep churning this shit out. They’ve just had Powell at Finch Farm, using their state of the art equipment to sort out his hamstrings. It won’t be for free, and I can’t see us doing that if we are looking to get shut. AND Grigg has been being handled sensibly to get him firing fit again.

The only players going are players who haven’t played a part, and who Cook obviously feels we can get better players in than. None of them are a shock. They are just reminders of the pathetic management we’ve had to endure.

Paul Cook is like a breath of fresh air.

It’s one thing wanting to get rid of certain players. It’s another allowing them to talk to other clubs & another thinking a deal to get rid is close.
It’s a completely different kettle of fish to be certain it’s happened & that their salaries are freed to spend on someone else.
It’s a fact at Latics now that the budget is strict & new guys aren’t brought in until others have gone – not might be on their way

I like the way Paul Cook is dealing with all this. He has observed the players on the training pitch and is taking the steps necessary to release/sell the players that he and his back room staff don’t feel are up to it.

He his slowly rebuilding with players he feels are more capable but at the same time is looking to the future by trying the youngsters we are bringing through.

We as fans have been shouting for this kind of management for ages so we should be rejoicing instead of criticising (Donny).

The work being done on the training pitch with fitness and tactics etc is far more important than friendly after meaningless friendly. I know they have to gel as a group and play together, but I think the week away, the training ground and the few friendlies we have had is the right way to get the team ready for the season.

It might not all gel together right away and we will more than likely see more comings and goings, but I reckon it will work in the long run.
