Paul Cook is like a breath of fresh air.

Almost reminds me of another paul who recently managed the club.

I like the way Paul Cook is dealing with all this. He has observed the players on the training pitch and is taking the steps necessary to release/sell the players that he and his back room staff don’t feel are up to it.

He his slowly rebuilding with players he feels are more capable but at the same time is looking to the future by trying the youngsters we are bringing through.

We as fans have been shouting for this kind of management for ages so we should be rejoicing instead of criticising (Donny).

The work being done on the training pitch with fitness and tactics etc is far more important than friendly after meaningless friendly. I know they have to gel as a group and play together, but I think the week away, the training ground and the few friendlies we have had is the right way to get the team ready for the season.

It might not all gel together right away and we will more than likely see more comings and goings, but I reckon it will work in the long run.

      Amen!!

Any new manager who came in would have got shut of the chaff and our own youngsters are being considered simply because of financial restraints. Judge Cooky on entertainment or results around Christmas. Nothing revolutionary has happened yet.

On a positive front we still have Powell, Grigg and Burn which could be a strong spine to the side. Just hope we have quality out wide.

Depending on the system he plays, I am sure Burke on the right and James on the left will get up the wings okay, and if he plays a different system, Byrne or Massey can play out wide if necessary.

By the start of the season, I’m sure that Paul Cook will have our squad in a really good state, more quality than quantity. Let’s face it, we had a wage list that was being abused with the amount of players on it who have, for one reason or another, not contributed anything last season, and wouldn’t have done this. Cookie has basically done what most of us would have done, and wanted done ourselves.

I can’t wait for this season to start, as I predict we are in for a really good season. A spine including Burn, Morsy, Powell and Grigg, and the talent we have around them….we’ve GOT to have a chance, haven’t we? Really looking forward to it!

Fingers crossed it’s Byrne and Massey rather than defenders leaving the left and right back positions wide open.

You commented previously that Bainsey was great at getting up the wing and getting the crosses in, so why can’t our present defenders do a similar job?

Whoa back Donny, your getting dangerously close to 4-4-2 and we know that is taboo.

No DJ Tic it’s just straightforward square pegs in square holes and round pegs in round holes. Just playing to strengths and being positive.

I’m certainley with you on that one, I hope Cooky abandons the policy of the last few years of playing players in positions that are alien to them rather than utilising players who are used to that position.
He did play Byrne at right back against LFC and Southport, I hope that was just out of necessity and to give him match time in that position just in case Burke or Daniels aren’t fit enough.

I’ve said all along I don’t like wing backs its too hard to play unless your a super fit talented player. It asks a lot of an average player to be a mixture of Kenny Sansome and Chris Waddle. I also think it contributes to lack of goals if it isn’t executed properly. Its beautiful to watch when you have world class wing backs and everything else seems to click into gear. At our level we have to adapt a better suited way and hopefully Cookie has the answer. Like you say don play to strengths.

I might be wrong but im sure cook uses the one striker system. However, im led to believe he has had good success with his system & has always produced good, attacking football.
