Very good 2nd half. Difference being fortune introduction. Know it’s been said before on this site but how much better were we with 2 strikers playing off each other. Long may it continue
21 August 2013 at 3:14 am #119583I agree as ive said in another post, things did improve once fortune came on.
21 August 2013 at 4:30 am #119592Beausejour should have started at left back overlapping ( like Boyce and Maloney did first half) with a totally frustrated McClean who had no support. I just hope Coyle stops trying to accommodate five in the middle and realises were far better with the players at hand when Holt has a strike partner.
21 August 2013 at 4:55 am #119593Rank bad defending cost us the three points tonight. It also cost us our Premiership status last season and nothing has changed.
Coyle alluded to it in his post match comments when he said players must adapt to the style of play in the Championship and I’ve yet to be convinced that out current back four are capable of that.
21 August 2013 at 11:21 am #119594Wasn’t at game as away on hols so I’ll read with interest the views on our performance. Was following game last night and can only say how disappointed I was with result. Although I don’t expect a cake walk I did hope to get at least 4 points from these last 2 games so a struggle to scrape even 1 is deflating. Maybe Doncaster and Bournemouth could turn out to be far better teams than I gave them credit for.Always going to be difficult early doors with so many new faces and the uncertainty of who’s leaving still 12 days to go.Chance to bounce back Sunday.

Midfield seemed unable to find our own players – they were nearly as bad as Doncaster. Balls were kicked upfield towards Holt. He needs much better service than that, and better support too.
And the defence looked far from secure – Doncaster could easily have scored more.
Wigan should have started with two forwards – Doncaster are hardly Manchester United. Fortune (for Watson) came on at half time, and later Beausejour (for McClean) – Coyle is willing to make substitutions. Wigan then looked much more likely to score.
I don’t see why we can’t win by playing good football in the Championship. But we didn’t play good football last night.
