although I had my head in my hands, we battled really well. I slated Gomez, but what a goal.
When it boils down, they had two attempts, they scored off one, put 10 behind the ball rather than 9 and rattled the cross bar. Al Habsi had nowt else to do.
I LAUGH AT THE ONES WHO BOO’D AT HALF TIME AND THEN LEFT ON 87 MINUTES., Arsenal anybody???
Well done on avoiding a banana skin.
First Cup win against them as well.

Hit the post too didn’t they?
Revenge somewhat for that 999th minute goal they scored back in 92 (or maybe 93) that put us out on away goals.
23 September 2010 at 1:46 am #47088And with all these “big” teams falling by the wayside who knows how for we might go……………..

I hate to be a picky fecker but if we’re thinking of the same game they didn’t put us out on away goals.
It was in 96 & we’d lost 3-2 at home & won 4-3 at their place over the 90 minutes. Away goals only count after extra time so it went to extra time & the ref added over 5 minutes of injury time onto the 2nd 15 minute period of extra time when he’d only added somet like 3 minutes on to the 2nd half of 45 minutes.
They scored a screamer with the last kick of the game23 September 2010 at 3:58 pm #47199And if I’m right in thinking, it was a screamer of a winner from about 30 yards scored by that McDonald chap who has just been replaced by Houlier at Villa.
Jesus Seba had a stormer along with Graham Lancashire.
23 September 2010 at 4:19 pm #47205Can’t remember who scored the PNE goal but I remember it being a good un
To be honest I didn’t go to the 2nd leg as I was forced by my mother to go to some elderly relative’s birthday do in Sale so I couldn’t vouch for who had a good game, although I’m sure I remember our manager (which must have been Deehan) slating Seba for fannying around with the ball near his own box, getting caught in possession & it eventually leading to Preston’s winner & he was released not that long afterwardsSpeaking of Graham Lancashire I ref’d a game at Everton Academy last month & he was the manager of the Burnley U14’s side that they were playing. They got absolutely mullered 10-0 so I’m not sure that a glittering managerial career awaits him!!!!!!!!

No, it wasn’t Kevin McDonald, who’s been at Villa.
It was NEIL McDonald, former Everton and Newcastle defender. Last seconds of the game, to put us out on away goals. Jesus Seba had lost the ball trying to play the attacking ball, rather than playing for time in the corner. They got possession, went forward, and got the goal. Graham Lancashire scored a hat-trick that night.

Sure it was away goals?
We lost the first leg 2-3, but at 90 minutes we were leading 4-3, so level on aggregate.
Under later rules we would have won on away goals, but the rules at the time were that if scores were level on aggregate an extra 30 minutes were played, and only after that did away goals count.
They as you said scored in the last seconds to win on aggregate 7-6.
