For the abject loser that is Roberto Martinez. Lowest scoring team in all 4 leagues. Our worst team and record in the premier league in 7 years of Wigan being there. No heart, no desire and totally no direction.

I know you will say nothing matters but yours and your mates opinions, but football is a results orientated business, and Spanish MartyBoy is not up to it (i know you will now focus on me calling him spanish, rather than the actual problem at hand in that he is a ridiculous excuse for a manager).

Please justify the latest drivel served up by Bobby, Caldwell, Ghouri (sp), Milli Vanilla Rodellega (scored a great free kick, did NOTHING else all season).

      Shambles from top to bottom.

And that little winger is sh1ote too.

Off out tonight, so will not be on Samaritan’s duty tonight. Be careful, people.

What is clear that the club is not looking to invest what it takes to guarantee – as far as it’s possible to guarantee – survival in this league. That has been apparent to me for at least two years now.

Listening on Wish today, it appears that daft mistakes and a couple of wonder goals have done for us. Either way, it’s a poor result and it doesn’t look good.

But, no matter how much you all rant and rave tonight and trot out the same stuff you trot out every single week (I’ll bet there isn’t one sensible, constructive or practical suggestion made in the next 24 hours as to how this situation can be resolved – just saying sack the Spanish c*** doesn’t qualify) it is highly, highly unlikely that Whelan is either going to change his manager and/or throw pots of money into buying new players, even if any players would actually agree to come here.

So, I’m afraid it is what it is. I thought in the run-up to Christmas we were showing just enough application and perfomance to maybe get out of it. Now, I’m much less optimistic.

And, without a significant change in the playing staff, I don’t even think that changing the manager will make any difference; this squad of players just isn’t good enough.

A fair response. You are right regarding the players not being good enough, but bobby is the man who put most of them there.

He did indeed, and hasn’t covered himself in glory in the transfer market, I agree. But I maintain that the limited finances he has available (note I didn’t say no finances) and the fact that it is still, and always will be, hard to attract quality players to this club, it’s not an easy task for anyone.

        #78918

Limited finances or not. Him being unwilling or unable to make neccessary changes when required haven’t helped. Time after time this season (and the previous 2) we have needed things changing round during matches and he steadfastly refuses to budge with his system.

This is not necessarily aimed at you griff, because I dont believe you are as pro martinez as you make out on here, and it is a combination of you being bloody minded and argumentative, and resigned and realistic whelans manipulation has placed martinez in a no win situation.

The question i want to ask you, but more so martinez’s more fervant supporters, you made this statement “I thought in the run-up to Christmas we were showing just enough application and perfomance to maybe get out of it.” and this is quite true.

I thought when martinez went 5 at the back against spurs earlier in the season this was the way forward, until gohouri was sent off it was working, it took ages for martinez to play that way again, but when we did it looked better and resulted in the pre christmas lift in form, so in a long winded way the questions I want to ask – Why has martinez gone back to a flat back four when five at the back was working, why has Stam been dropped when he has been our form player uptil last week v city and the last question, Do these actions alone show martinez is not upto his job.

LMB, to answer (as a lightsider): f’ck knows why the changed the formation, and f’ck knows why Stam didn’t start

I defended him yesterday regarding what’s being done at the club. I can’t however, defend the club’s league position or some of the results.

‘Only he knows’…… ‘only he knows’ and ‘yes’ are my answers to those questions. He should pay with his job now surely??

Shouldn’t your username be ‘Curbishley would turn us down too’?

you answered my first two questions try the third one, it is part and parcel of my view on the lightside – I dont understand why anyone can support or defend anything martinez does, but that does not mean I am right, but I honestly have never had it explained to me why martinez is the man for us other than emotional stuff about him loving the club and by not supporting him I am somehow disloyal to the club.

No, these two things alone do not prove he is not up to the job. If we are relegated at the end of the season and one of his targets was to keep us in the division, then no, he clearly was not up to the task in hand.

        I’ll have a go.

1, because I personally like the way he tries to play football

2, because he is being asked to do things off the field and he is doing them rather well

3, he waved at me when I drove past him in the street a couple of months ago.
