How can you say that “It’s another indication of the sad state of Scottish football.

What has happened to the great Scottish players that most First Division teams used to rely on?

What has happened to the great competition between the Old Firm?

What has happened to the great Scottish clubs who reached several European finals?

What has happened to the Scottish national team that regularly qualified for the World Cup?

Surely Scotland could still produce good players, even if it can’t afford to keep them at Scottish clubs.
What’s with all the questions just because you phooked up with a stupid comment
Scotland has a bigger population than Bosnia or Croatia – and they’re not bad at football.

Our Barnsley-bound friend is right. Scottish football is in an extremely poor state.

Two of the county’s biggest clubs have gone into administration and most of the others are threadbare. The national team have failed to qualify for a tournament in sixteen years, and their top division has gone from a two-horse-race to a one-horse-race.

Scottish football is in a sad state. I don’t know how you can think otherwise!

The great handicap is the modest income from broadcasting rights.

In addition, Rangers have gone into liquidation and reformed in the Scottish Third Division. This has weakened the SPL – competitively and economically – leaving Celtic unchallenged.

It has reduced attendances in the SPL by 28%, although it has raised them in the lower leagues where Rangers now play. It has also weakened the Scottish representation in European competition.

There are very few prominent Scottish players in international football and few opportunities for young players. Two thirds of Celtic’s squad come from abroad. Few Scottish players play in the Premier League and major European leagues. There are no Scottish players today of the stature of Kenny Dalglish, Denis Law and Jim Baxter, for example.

Hampden Park is unavailable for football as it will be used as the athletics stadium in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Scotland have failed to qualify for the last four World Cups.

    The Accies have done it!

They lost the first leg at home 0-2 but beat Hibs 0-2 away with a goal by Jason Scotland and a last minute goal by Anthony Andreu. They went on to win on penalties.

You can lose the first leg at home and recover!

There was a near capacity attendance of 18,031.

Hibs started their miserable season with a 9-0 defeat in Europe, and now join Hearts and Rangers in the Scottish Championship – and only one team can come up next season.

Queen of the South for me :)

Hamilton totally deserved it I thought they did an amazing job on Hibs. Wish our penalties had been as good against Arsenal. Well done Accies.

I should have said just one team is automatically promoted.

    Three Championship teams and one Premiership team take part in the Premiership play offs. They are not like ours;

Quarter final; Falkirk beat Queen of the South
    Semi final; Hamilton beat Falkirk
    Final; Hamilton beat Hibernian

There are some interesting club names in Scotland. Perhaps Latics could change their name to Queen of the North.

Quite probably one of the funniest relegations in Scottish Football History, given their run in the last 6 games or so.

Been a long time coming for Scottish Football to get its house in order, with Hearts and Hibs being relegated along with Rangers this should sort out their finances.

The Scottish Premier League had already lost one of the Old Firm, Rangers. Hibs and Hearts – two of the four Premier League teams with an average attendance above 10,000 – now join Rangers in the Championship.

Their replacements Dundee (average attendance 4,738) and Hamilton (average attendance 1,436) are not going to attract bigger gates, greater broadcasting rights or more sponsorship.

Scotland play Nigeria tomorrow – at Craven Cottage. Their form has improved under Gordon Strachan. It looks an attractive fixture.

I didn’t say who it would attract!

Would you like to know the result of the World Cup Final?
