That was some side we had back then. Happy memories indeed.

I’m pretty sure that in 2005 United played the boring old British way and they won the occasional tin pot as well.
Which Latics would you rather watch?
PJ’s title winning side or the stuff we have just witnessed?.
10 May 2017 at 3:27 pm #158895I’d rather have watched Jewell’s team than Joyce’s all day long.
But I preferred Martinez’s style of play to Jewell’s. Yes it could be boring at times, but when t clicked, it was fantastic to watch.
That’s my personal preference though.
10 May 2017 at 3:51 pm #158896It certainly clicked for Bobby when it mattered I thought we were superb in the final but that was his Achilles heel consistency. Overall I would have PJ’s Latics all day and the shed full of goals we scored. But as you rightly say preference.

Only jokng, those sides we had under Jewell were class and just had a desire to win no matter what.
Always remember conceding against Notts County in the 90th minute in a game we were 3-0 up in but as it was the first goal we had conceded in something like 9 games John Filan, Jason De Vos and Matt Jackson were all clearly irate at the fact they had scored.

Reminds me of leaving the ground after close of play after the Reading game. Everyone else was floating so high like we’d been breathing helium, but there was this fella really giving it some because Reading scored in injury time and he had £10 on Wigan 3-0 with Super Lee first goal
Same chap probably came out of Wembley effing and blinding because we didnt win 2-0 :silly:

Correct Eggy, PJs team showed real desire in most games; none so more that the Sheffield United finale. I was physically & emotionally exhausted after that game ! Probably more so than the Cup Final.
So, Eggy & Nuneaton I’m with you on the PJ Era.
11 May 2017 at 1:02 pm #158917THE greatest moment. They can never take this from us.
